You have another month ahead spiced with inner concerns, Virgo. This is easy to comprehend once you recognize that Mercury, your ruler, has been in retrograde motion, moving back across the nadir of your solar chart, completing by mid-month. These fluctuations put you in touch with issues of home, family and identity. This includes family of origin and current familial setting, as well as more mundane concerns such as rearranging your dwelling space. A mystical and active take on partnership is also included in the mix. With regard to important partners in your life, you could be feeling idealism, illusion, or uncertainty, and there could be sudden realizations concerning early trauma and the internal wounding that holds you back from more complete partnership interaction, culminating in the Sagittarius New Moon of December 6th. You are experiencing a rebirth of who you are at the core, and that new understanding inevitably relates back to interior spaces behind and beyond the surface layers of your more logically oriented mind and personality.
The following was written by this month's guest columnist Adam Elenbaas of The Nightlight Astrology School
December begins on the heels of the Venus/Uranus opposition, which took place on November 30th. The opposition fell across the Libra/Aries axis, and your second and eighth houses, likely bringing up sudden changes or disruptions to finances and relationships simultaneously. In many ways the start of the month is toned by the immediacy of this powerful transit, which is very much still lingering in the air for you.
Meanwhile, all month long transits in your fourth house of home, family, and property are emphasized alongside of squares to planets in the seventh house of relationships. It begins right away on December 2nd, as the Sun in Sagittarius in your fourth house of home and family makes a square to Mars in Pisces in your seventh house of relationships. This transit suggests that your family legacy, perhaps particularly the role of your father or the men in your family, are having a direct impact on the challenges, conflicts, or growth work you are currently doing in your relationships.
Late evening on December 6th, continuing into the next day, the New Moon in Sagittarius lands in your fourth house and makes a square to the Mars/Neptune conjunction taking place in your seventh house of relationships. Chiron, the Wounded Healer, is also active at this time, as Mercury stations to direct motion and your communication becomes more forthright. Old patterns of inner wounding could arise for conscious recognition and healing. You are likely being asked to make personal compromises or sacrifices for those you love right now, or you might be searching for a new beginning, a new place to call home, both emotionally and spiritually, as well as within your closest relationships. Be careful of the impulse to compromise or sacrifice your integrity for an immediate solution. There is a romantic and crusading quality to this New Moon, which may be calling you to action, but don’t let yourself be carried away by delusions of grandeur or impulsive emotional responses.
On December 20th, the Sun in Sagittarius in your fourth house will then trine Uranus in Aries in your eighth house, bringing an aura of excitement, spontaneity and defiance. The insights and inspiration you are receiving right now are here to deliver you from your fears and to help you transform yourself from the roots up. However, the temptation to hide, defy, or resist the call to change may also present itself, so it’s important that you continually evaluate your intentions and be radically honest with yourself, as well as those in your family.
On December 21st, your ruling planet, Mercury, will conjoin Jupiter in Sagittarius in your fourth house. There is much to be learned right now if you pay attention to the voice of your ancestors, your children and parents, and especially the voice of the past. Teachers from the past may appear right now, or you may find that you are restoring your faith or spiritual practices because you need a spiritual sense of “home” within yourself. Whatever the case might be, there is a deep level of wisdom and learning available to you right now.
Finally, on December 24th, Mercury in Sagittarius in your fourth house will then square Neptune in Pisces in your seventh house, bringing last month’s Mercury Retrograde back to the place where it all started. After a long and deep process of introspection over the past month, of evaluating the importance of home and family, of taking an honest look at yourself and your relationships, you are at a crossroads. The role of communication at home and in your relationships might be challenging right now, but vulnerability and honesty will help you to slice right through miscommunications and confusion.
Other transits to think about this month include the Winter Solstice on December 21st. The Sun will move into Capricorn in your fifth house, emphasizing the themes of creativity, children, and happiness, at the start of a new solar year. Then, right afterward on December 22nd, the Full Moon falls in Cancer in your eleventh house of friends, colleagues, groups, and wishes, emphasizing the importance of community, family, and friends. You are learning and growing in relation to the themes of home, roots, and relationships very powerfully this month, but this Full Moon reminds you that home is also found in friends and the larger communities of people that share similar dreams and values. Also, note that in the month to come you will receive your first eclipses in these houses, as well, so stay tuned for more next month!
