Virgo Horoscope for January 2019

You are entering into a time of consolidation, Virgo, along with newly minted twists and turns to contend with. Following the long retrograde of your ruler, Mercury, through your home and family sector, you have been coming to a more potent understanding of yourself at deep levels. This month, new realizations concerning values and beliefs constitute a new jumping-off point for constructive action. Your self-expression is on the rise, and in major transformation, following up on changes from months back. Although you are somewhat conservative in your approach to your own creativity, you are at times wildly idealistic about it. Your worldview is jelling in some interesting directions, and you are more and more interested in acting upon these beliefs. In the last half of the month, onrushing insights reach a crescendo as you are called to service to others and to a fresh appreciation for your own depths. It is a paradoxical notion, but the way up and the way down are one and the same.

This month features two eclipses, one in Leo and one in Capricorn, plus a long lineup of transits through the earthy and practical sign of Capricorn, starting with a Sun/Saturn conjunction in Capricorn in your fifth house on January 1st, followed by a powerful Solar Eclipse in Capricorn on January 5th,bringing issues of self-expression and exploring your creativity to the fore. This is followed by a Sun/Pluto conjunction, also in Capricorn, on January 10th, and finally a square from Mars in Aries to Saturn in Capricorn on January 21st.

With eclipses now set to move through Capricorn all the way into 2020, plus Saturn in Capricorn gradually making its way toward a major conjunction with Pluto in Capricorn in the winter of 2019/2020, your fifth house is the target of much activity to come. Traditionally, the fifth house was the house of good fortune, and it was called the joy of Venus. It is associated with creativity and the arts, children and pregnancy, joy, recreation, sport, and pleasure. However, with the heavy “Saturnine” themes associated with your fifth house, your relationship to pleasure is often complicated by work, duty, and responsibility, which may lead to repression. Repression in turn may lead to intense binges or unhealthy ways of seeking creative release or sensual pleasure. In the next year you are therefore asking yourself the question, “How do I make time for my own happiness in the midst of all the work and responsibility'” On the other hand, these Saturnine themes aligning with your fifth house might ask you to find joy, beauty, and inspiration even in dark or sobering circumstances. It takes a certain kind of genius to make something beautiful out of life’s most rugged or wintry circumstances, but this could be exactly what you are being called to do right now.

On January 8th your ruling planet, Mercury, will square Mars in Aries, and then between January 12th and 13th, Mercury will conjoin Saturn in Capricorn, bringing themes of mental confrontation, seriousness, finality, and scrutiny or skepticism. It’s a good time to get to the bottom of things, to grow or mature in your understanding of something, and to confront things that are weighing heavily on you. At the same time, you are likely to feel personally challenged by these transits since Mercury is your ruling planet, so try to keep a steady mind and know that the intensity of this transit will not last long.

On January 13th, just as the Sun and Moon come into the square alignment of the First Quarter Moon, Jupiter in Sagittarius in your fourth house of home and family will square Neptune in Pisces in your seventh house of relationships. Venus in Sagittarius is also perfecting a trine to Mars in Aries in your eighth house of death, rebirth, and other people’s resources on January 17th.It’s a time of great expansion and dreaming related to your home, family, and your most intimate relationships therein. You might be thinking about moving or relocating, your spouse might be getting a raise or changing jobs, or you might be meeting someone or considering moving in with a close partner. There is magic and imagination surrounding this transit as well as the desire to recreate and transform within your private sphere or home life. The only thing to beware here is that sometimes Jupiter and Neptune can represent delusions of grandeur or may tempt you into fantasies that lack grounding or substance. Thankfully, with Mercury in Capricorn this month, you should have a healthy level of discernment that will help you to see the difference.

On the late evening of January 20th, a Lunar Eclipse in Leo will fall in your twelfth house of unconscious process. This is the final of a long series of eclipses you’ve been receiving in your twelfth house over the past year and a half. The twelfth house has always been a house that allows you to grow and evolve on all levels so long as you are willing to do the work of looking inward and learning to release that which is no longer serving your highest good. This eclipse is therefore like the grand finale of a long season of work you’ve been doing in this regard. Take this as an opportunity to let go of whatever else you are still holding onto, and trust that you will grow immensely as a result.

Then, on January 22nd, Venus and Jupiter will conjoin in Sagittarius in your fourth house of home and family, bringing a wave of romance, good fortune, abundance, and beauty in your domestic sphere. There are blessings for you all year long in relation to home and family thanks to Jupiter’s presence in your fourth house, but within each blessing there are also lessons and teachings from the sage, so make sure you are opening your mind and heart to the deeper messages coming through around home and family right now, as well.
