This is another month of serious internal contemplation, Sagittarius, as you proceed on the path of your own unique evolutionary development. From the time of last month’s Capricorn Solstice onward, your creative self-expression has been emphasized. Then, too, you must also recognize not to let any lingering self-doubt slow you down. With all the Capricorn energy this month, you are thinking as well about the resources that you bring to your task. You could also be in the process of changing or even totally remaking your idea of the material. Mercury retrograding though your sector of resources and values, month-long, implies that, rather than any solid form of advancement, you are more in the mode of questioning and reassessing this area of life. The Full Moon of January 6th brings intimate relationship into this picture, while the 12th and the 18th are important markers in your ongoing internal contemplation of what you are truly up to in this life. In accessing your own deep values that lead you to your most authentic self, you are also taking your internal moral compass into account as a significant determinant of your actions, for yourself, and for your society.
The following was written by our resident monthly columnist Elodie St-Onge Aubut of Ninth House Astrology
The January month begins with an emphasis on the sign of Capricorn due to the ongoing lunation cycle from the time of December’s Capricorn Solstice and New Moon. Your ruling planet Jupiter made a close alignment to this New Moon, emphasizing the practical factors in your life, the resources and the values that you need to make happen what your heart is asking you to accomplish. You have the desire for good financial reward for your efforts and yet there is also a certain degree of questioning that is going on because of Mercury retrograding through this same sector of your chart right from the very beginning of the month. This characterizes the month of January as an introspective and self-reflective time, when you are attempting to sort out the deeper meaning. Jupiter was emphasized in these recent configurations and was newly entered into your fellow Fire sign of Aries that makes a supportive trine with your sign. What brings you joy, vitality, and self-confidence could be highlighted in a big way right now and it could be hard to focus on the boring aspects of life – even though of course you have to spend some time with these also.
Venus enters Aquarius on the evening of the 2nd which may emphasize your communication and learning skills in the coming weeks. Things could be busy for you as the year gets underway and it can have something to do with your level of curiosity for what is really going on within you and outside of yourself.
The Cancer Full Moon takes place on January 6th in the sector of your chart that relates to your business or personal partnerships and more extensively the agreements and contracts that bind you to others. A culmination process may be taking place and you may be able to assess what you share with others and see how well it is serving you. Mercury Retrograde in Capricorn is conjunct the Sun in this Full Moon, so that Mercury is highlighted at this time which may be read as one peak moment of the Mercury Retrograde period. There could be missed connections where you thought they were solid, or you might have to revise agreement with someone before you can proceed. The morning after the Full Moon could bring some clarifications to this picture however.
There may be ongoing negotiations with others this month and it may take some time to find common ground.
On the 9th and the 10th, Venus in Aquarius forms a supportive trine with Mars in Gemini just before Mars turns direct on the 12th, which could bring some kind of forward motion. However, Mercury still moving retrograde in Capricorn could slow down processes or complicate financial and partnership matters until after its entire cycle, including its retrograde shadow period, runs out after the end of January.
On the 18th, Mercury changes to direct motion and you might feel a shift in the energy. As far as the consideration of your resources and values, the Sun in Capricorn also meets Pluto there, indicating a feeling of transformation in your attitude toward what you have to work with as you navigate life’s details and your finances.
The New Moon in Aquarius arrives on January 21st again supported by Jupiter in Aries signaling the beginning of a new cycle for things related to your communicative skills and the opportunities that come from what you know. This could be a very favorable time when the culmination of your past experiences or training is beginning to pay off. Venus conjoining Saturn in Aquarius highlights the efforts and hard work that might be required of you at this time. Uranus is also very slow in the sky, about to turn direct in Taurus the next day, which can indicate deep intuitional realizations or surprise events to contend with.
On January 26th, Venus enters Pisces emphasizing features of your domestic life, your home, and your family; this could be a good time to beautify your space over the coming weeks.
From January 28th to the 30th, the Sun in Aquarius forms a trine with Mars in your opposite sign of Gemini and the new planet Makemake in Libra, forming a grand trine. There could be new developments with partnerships in your life that lead you to a more inclusive viewpoint to take you forward into your next stage.
