This November month, featuring as it does, from its very start, the joint retrogrades of both Venus and Mercury in Scorpio, is filled with the familiar characteristics of missed connections and mechanical breakdowns and, as well, deep introspective contemplation of our life situation in general. There is also quite a lot of political drama to take in, especially here in the United States, with the consequential November 3rd midterm elections posing a unique set of possible outcomes and reactions that will not likely resolve until December, if then. These twin inner planets in retrograde motion both station direct on the 13th, and since they are that day standing almost dead still in the sky, this date is one highlight of the entire retrograde period – with the usual symptoms. Mercury slowly recovers over the next two weeks, not escaping its post-retrograde shadow until the 29th. Venus, in Libra by the time of her station, returns to Scorpio and catches up with its lost zodiacal degrees by the 15th of December.
The Scorpio New Moon of November 8th, PT, punctuates the retrograde period’s meditative questioning and review with additional energy in this deeply transformative sign. Also featured in the November astrology are outer planets Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in the early degrees of Gemini, Aries, and Aquarius, as they remain in their storied trine and sextile alignment in more muted form, yet also triggered by the Full Moon alignment of the last week of the previous month – with its 2° Taurus Moon in a close T-square with the Sun and Pluto at 3° Aquarius – and that of the Gemini Full Moon of November 24th, which conjuncts Uranus and aspects Neptune at 1° Aries. The cycles of all three, and especially of Uranus and Pluto, are thus still vitally active as we slide toward the end of another brutally chaotic and transformational year.
The double retrogrades of inner planets for all of November bring up the question of how to regard this period of time as far as acting on impulse. Usually, sudden decisions might go just fine, although the caution for any Mercury Retrograde period (and its two-week aftermath) is, rather, to wait and see. That is, not to, let’s say “push the river,” but rather to investigate things and meditate on proper adjustments. And this is perhaps magnified for November with Venus also retrograde. The clue is that what is favored during the retrograde period is anything with “Re” such as reflect, review, readjust, reconsider. Question things, in other words, rather than proceed willy-nilly. You can’t always do that – sometimes you just must go ahead and cash the check – but that is the astrological recommendation.
This November month is thus a time of looking within, favoring meditation and inner work, honoring the vastness of what is below the surface layers of normal everyday consciousness. Neptune in Aries (ruling Pisces and therefore internal meditation) is also emphasized this month, especially with the Full Moon configurations from the ending week of the previous month, and on the 24th of this current one, when the Sun and Moon make close aspects to Neptune as well as to Uranus and Pluto.
In the November 8th New Moon at 16° Scorpio there is an interesting midpoint configuration that is worth mentioning, and that also emphasizes the Mercury Retrograde period in this month’s timing. The Neptune/Saturn midpoint, with their separation from their recent conjunction coming now to seven degrees, turns out to be 5° Aries. What is significant for the New Moon configuration is that we have, a close sextile away, the Uranus position of 4° Gemini, and across the zodiac from these two sensitive points there is retrograde Mercury at 6° Scorpio, making Mercury the focus of a tight yod from Neptune/Saturn and Uranus, implying further emphasis on retrograde Mercury for the remaining three weeks of November.
Another factor in the November 8th New Moon that was also featured in last month’s Full Moon and is powerfully invoked in the Full Moon near the end of this month is the Pluto-Haumea square of about one degree of separation from exact, which carries a specific meaning. Pluto represents getting to the bottom of things, including the seamy underside of whatever is in contact with Pluto, while Haumea represents profound connection with Nature, and with a species of natural law that includes telling the truth as we know it. We all possess this within ourselves, though in differing intensities. The Pluto-Haumea square, as I have mentioned before – and for which I have seen amazing evidence for several years now – corresponds to the truth coming out. Over and over, I have seen this being the case when the Pluto-Haumea square is featured in the astrology; and on the early morning of November 3rd, the square is incidentally partile, plus triggered by Neptune, Uranus, retrograde Venus, and the Moon.
The November 24th Full Moon at 2° Gemini represents another potent lunation, opposite the Sun at 2° Sagittarius, and in close aspect to Neptune at 1° Aries (a sextile), Uranus at 3° Gemini (a close conjunction), and Pluto at 3° Aquarius (a close trine). With the three outer planets so compellingly invoked, the transformational process that we have all been engaged in for these past two years is very much still in effect. Through the potency of the multiple inner planet retrogrades of November, which have, hopefully, enabled us to look more sincerely within ourselves, and these outer planet alignments with the Sun and Moon on this lunation of the 24th, we are coming, by hook or by crook as they say, to our next evolutionary stage.
The Capricorn Solstice and, as well, the end-of-year chart of December 31st have pretty much this same outer planet line-up, with the Sun in the latter configuration additionally lying in partile conjunction with Mercury and in a close parallel with Pluto. This is thus an indication that our transformational process, affecting this country and global Western society as a whole, will continue for at least the following year. We all must simply do what we can do and let it go when we cannot. It helps enormously when we can have faith that the universe has our back and, ultimately, to see us through.
