This is another important month for you, Scorpio. You have been doing quite a lot of soul searching lately, with the addition of surprising events, likely in the relationship arena, that have given you the impulse to explore new psychological territory as you advance your spiritual and intellectual development. Another feeling within you, though, holds you back from exploration. Last month’s potent Aries Full Moon has given you a turn to the inside, reinforced in this current month by the retrograde of Venus through your sign. This means that you are in something of an introspective mode, especially with regard to relationship issues, searching for your true inner motivation. Your finances and your principles are also on the line, together with a determination to act upon the latter. You are coming from a fundamentally optimistic place right now. As you reassess plans and future goals, you may feel that you are on something of a mission to make things happen in a way that is more directly consistent with your most deeply held values.

The following was written by this month's guest columnist Adam Elenbaas of The Nightlight Astrology School

The month gets started with a square from Mercury in Libra in your twelfth house to Pluto in Capricorn in your third house, exact on October 2nd. This transit will invite you inward to reflect upon the beauty and transience of life, or it may create the space for you to enjoy a deep or intense conversation with a comfortable intellectual distance. If you have been avoiding an important conversation, or hiding your true thoughts or feelings from others, don’t be surprised if they find a way to the surface right now. Don’t worry, because typically the more honest things get, the more comfortable you become.

On October 5th, Venus will turn retrograde in your home sign of Scorpio, announcing a period of intensely personal self-reflection, especially in terms of your relationships. Where do things need to be shaken up, where do norms or habits need to be challenged or redefined' Where are most in need of greater freedom, health, or independence' These are the questions most likely to surface. The last time that Venus was retrograde in your home sign dates to the Autumn of 2010, so you may think back to what was happening back then, what has changed about you and your relationships since then, and what themes are perhaps recurring for the first time since then' The most important advice for this transit is the simplest: be true to yourself, and don’t try to hide yourself from others. Your honest will have the power to change things for the better. At the same time, be patient with whatever personal changes you are most desperate to make. Retrogrades indicate a process, and once Venus turns direct in mid-November, you will be ready to make these personal changes in the most positive way.

On October 8th, the New Moon in Libra will fall in your twelfth house of dissolution and transcendence. Here we see the New Moon reflecting similar themes to the Venus retrograde. In the weeks ahead, you will be asking the question, “How can I surrender or let go in the most thoughtful manner possible'” Or you might be asking yourself, “Where do I find enduring beauty, balance, or love, considering the reality of impermanence and change'” These are questions of not just temporary, earthly value but enduring, soulfulness. This is perfect for an Autumn lunar cycle!

On October 10th, Venus retrograde in your home sign of Scorpio, therefore in your first house, will square your ruler, Mars, in Aquarius in your fourth house of home and family. At the same time, Mercury enters Scorpio and will oppose rebellious Uranus in the sign of Taurus in your seventh house of love and relationships. Watch for changes, creativity, or challenges related to both home and family, or property and parents, and intimate relationships or partnerships. You are trying to define yourself, your values, and your roles or responsibilities more clearly in relation to your family or close partners. This may require that you make some difficult decisions or take some calculated or creative risks. Your desire for independence is likely very strong, and it wouldn’t be surprising if you need to create a change of scenery for the moment to get clear about what you want, especially, again, at home or in partnership with others.

On October 11th the Sun in Libra in your twelfth house of self-undoing and transcendence will square Pluto in Capricorn in your third house of communication and the mind, suggesting once more the themes of dissolution, surrender, and turning inward. There is no use fighting against the inevitable, and there is no use fighting for something that isn’t coming naturally. The Sun in the twelfth house is offering you the great wisdom and beauty of letting things go, especially unnecessary power struggles, while Pluto in your third house is empowering you to trust the insights or messages you are receiving, or those that you need to share with others.

On October 19th, Mercury in Scorpio will square Mars in Aquarius in the fourth house of home and family. You have the energy available to you to analyze, deconstruct, or diagnose issues related to your living environment, family, parents, or perhaps even your deep past or ancestral karma. Watch for themes of mental combativeness or argumentation and debate, but you may also benefit from a more thorough or skillful application of your mind and speech. Because Mars is your ruling planet, ever since late June of this Summer, you have been more personally absorbed in the topics of home and family, and so this moment may reflect an ability so process or integrate some of these experiences, perhaps coming to some fruitful conclusions or finding a way to organize or communicate something of your experiences around home and family as of late.

Lastly, the Full Moon of October 24th will conjoin Uranus in Taurus in your seventh house of relationships and oppose Venus retrograde in Scorpio in your first house. With Venus in Scorpio also set to oppose Uranus in Taurus on October 30th, the end of the month packs a punch around the theme of relationships. You are likely ready to experience a big shift in your relationships. If you’re single, watch for a rebellious or experimental romantic partner to appear on the scene. If you’re with someone already, then you may be in store for a shakeup or breakthrough. It’s also possible that things are changing dramatically for a partner, and that it’s calling into question your own destiny or purpose. Ultimately, the relationships that are most worth having should combine some sense of both peace and stability, of trust and beauty, while also providing us with growth challenges, excitement, and just enough of the unknown to keep things interesting. All month long, you will likely be trying to find the balance between these things, either within yourself, or within your most important relationships!
