The Libra New Moon in the middle degrees of the sign takes place on Saturday morning, October 10th, at 8:50 am PDT, later morning for the East Coast and afternoon for Europe. This New Moon is ruled by a retrograde Venus, at 7° of Scorpio, precisely square to Mars at 7° of Leo. The Libra Sun is ruled by Venus, which in turn is ruled by Mars in Leo, while Mars in turn is ruled by the Sun, so this is a tight thread of rulership that has the feel of mutual reception, Venus to Mars, even though this is through a third planet. The retrograde position of Venus in its precise square to Mars in Leo brings a quality of inward-turning and self-reflection to this New Moon, even as the outer planet alignments of Neptune to Pluto, and Pluto to Uranus, stay strong and reinforce the transformational tenor of these difficult and yet progressive times that we are all living through. In this New Moon configuration also, there is a strong Saturn presence that supplies much-needed grounding to the entire symbolism.
Relationship is another powerful theme for this New Moon, which takes us through the next thirty days of the lunation cycle lasting into the first week of November. Not only is the sign of Libra emblematic of one-on-one partnership, and balance, but the Venus–Mars perfect square is also redolent of relations between quintessentially mythological male and female roles, which can be present in various combinations of human gender.
The 3D physical world, and, equally, what is beyond it, are added themes in this New Moon patterning. Neptune and Saturn are still co-present in Aries, where they were closely conjunct at the beginning of the 2026 year. As they retrograde together leading up to December, they remain widely conjunct, fading with the advent of 2027. Saturn is featured in this New Moon, being inconjunct (quincunx) to Mercury in Scorpio, and opposed the new 21st-century planet, Makemake, in Libra. The Saturn/Eris midpoint of 18° Aries is additionally closely opposed to Sun and Moon at 17° Libra. Neptune is also currently emphasized. At 2° Aries, Neptune is sextile Pluto at 3° of Aquarius, plus being bi-quintile Venus within about one degree, and is additionally the subject of a yod from the South Lunar Node and the other new 21st-century planet, Haumea, at 3° Scorpio. This is plenty of Neptune, and that might allow us to think of the mystically numinous contrast that Neptune provides to the physical, as represented by Saturn.
In considering the amalgam that we have in this life between the physical (Saturn) and the mystical (Neptune) we might also be able to recognize that this is another area in which our task is to reach for an elusive balance point. There is an over-emphasis in this culture on the purely rational, to the exclusion of the non-rational mystical reality that also underlies everything that we see and do. These two pillars of our earthly existence vitally need to be equally represented, and acknowledged, and this is one value of the increasing emphasis these days on astrology and other mystical pursuits, to help rectify the current imbalance.
This archetypal combination of Saturn–Neptune, reflected by their conjunction in Aries, active over the past few years and now fading, has also been one that emphasized the ideological divisions within the society rather than our commonalities, so that perhaps it is time to reach for the places where we can all agree, such as adhering to the rule of law, or treating one another with decency and respect.
The other outer planet alignments of these fractious times are still active in these autumn skies. Neptune lies in close sextile to Pluto, off by a mere one degree, while Uranus remains in close sextile and trine to them both. The transformational evolution of the culture, and of ourselves as individuals, remains an active background to everything that is currently unfolding as the 2026 year comes to its ending moments and, here in this country at least, as the extremely consequential early November midterm election looms.
Prominent Neptune has also the flavor of deception, reflected in the current political climate, where it is difficult at times to get to the underlying truth of almost any matter, while another perfect square in this potent New Moon configuration, the Pluto–Haumea square at 3° of Aquarius and Scorpio, can indicate the truth nevertheless coming out. I have seen this over and over again, and it makes sense in terms of this fascinating new archetype that is swimming into view in our current century of the 2000s, representing profound connection to Nature, and also to a species of natural law within us, that we try to treat each other as we ourselves would like to be treated, and that we attempt to tell the truth as we know it. Pluto in combination with Haumea has proven to indicate that, in spite of overt lies on the part of politicians, the actual truth has a way of making itself known. And we do need right now, more than ever, to understand the truth. In recent history, this has been especially the case when the Pluto–Haumea square is highlighted, as we can see currently in this New Moon configuration. Pluto–Haumea in close square alignment has been active – off and on – over the past several years.
And so we are left with, as always, our need to act upon our deepest beliefs and principles as we can come to these, and as prominent Eris, currently highlighted, and representing a feminine warrior archetype in support of soul intention, enjoins us to do. It is so vitally important a message from the stars for these difficult weeks and months: that we have the faith in the universe to continue to support us, the courage of our convictions as we can feel them, and the understanding of our need to articulate and act upon this inner guidance, and, indeed, upon nothing else.
