The New Moon in Pisces arrives on March 18, 2026, at 6:23 PM Pacific Time, commencing a new lunation cycle at 28° of the sign. Pisces New Moons invite us to step into the numinous, into the transcendent, into the realm of imagination and wonder. This is the beautiful quality of the Pisces archetype, reflecting our human capacity to dream and sense what lies beyond the merely tangible, and yet it can also represent a slippery slope. The shadow side of this energy can incline us toward escapism, avoidance, or addictive tendencies.
So at its heart, this New Moon invites inquiry: how do we relate to the unseen? How do we wield our own psychic imagination? And how might we foster our creative essence to reinforce what is life-affirming, while also noticing where our minds get stuck in patterns or conditioning that diminish our life force?
The Sun and Moon in conjunction are joined in Pisces by Mars and by Mercury, closely conjunct the North Node, all four gathered in that sign. Meanwhile, next door in fiery Aries, a stellium of five placements, Saturn, Neptune, Venus, Chiron, and the recently discovered 21st century planet Eris, travel together.
Mercury has been retrograde for several weeks and stations direct on Friday the 20th, just two days after this New Moon, meaning that at this interesting lunation moment we are right in the depths of that retrograde with Mercury standing almost dead still in the sky. Mercury in Pisces does not tend to operate at its best, so that in this timing you could find yourself experiencing a certain degree of confusion, fogginess, or mental fatigue. Yet there is a gift available here too: this Mercury placement can connect us to the vast expanse of poetic imagination and felt intuition.
With Mercury additionally conjunct the North Node, there may be an invitation to be intentional about the information we are taking in, becoming more deliberate about how we direct our thought forms. This in fact might be an excellent time for creative envisioning, for setting our sights on the possibilities of what could be in ways that truly serve us and the greater whole.
Discernment may be especially important under this lunation. Many of us are already sensing a growing unease as the collision of AI and media begins to create an environment where it is becoming ever more difficult to determine what is actually real. Interestingly, this theme is written right into the astrology of the moment. The Sun and Moon at 28° Pisces sit just two degrees from the Aries cusp, placing this New Moon in an out-of-sign conjunction with both Neptune and Saturn, having recently made their ingress into Aries. Neptune is at 1° and Saturn at 3° of the Aries sign. The Sun and Moon in this New Moon are also both in close declinational aspect to Saturn and Neptune, the Sun especially, so that the blurring of boundaries around what is real and what is not – very much part of the Saturn-Neptune signature – is another strong factor in this late Pisces lunation.
This Saturn–Neptune conjunction, occurring roughly every 38 years and now landing in the recent perfection of their conjunction on the very first degree of the zodiac, suggests that we are entering an entirely new landscape, one that Pluto’s journey through Aquarius is also reflecting back to us. Saturn and Neptune are in many ways antithetical forces. Saturn seeks definition, responsibility, fixity, and commitment, while Neptune dissolves boundaries and moves beyond fixed forms. Together they may inform our understanding of structures and identities that no longer fit, and must erode away, while encouraging us toward a new relationship with uncertainty, paradox, and our own trans-personal sense of Self.
The Sun and Moon are additionally in a sextile to Uranus, located in the final degrees of Taurus before its upcoming ingress and re-entry into Gemini later this year. This is not a harsh aspect, although it does hold that disruptive Uranian quality, bringing flashes of awakening, revelation, along with unexpected developments. Within all of this we may find it helpful to be intentional about the meaning we are making out of what is happening around us, the stories we take in, and the stories we tell. Discernment indeed counts for quite a lot now. Perhaps above all, it makes sense that we be enormously gentle with ourselves, even as we try our best to look hard truths squarely in the eye.
Another ongoing configuration shaping the atmosphere is Chiron conjunct Eris at 24° Aries. This is a fierce and sometimes painful pairing. Chiron represents the wounded dimension each of us carries and the pathways available toward healing. Eris is a disruptive force to the status quo, clarifying what is truly real and calling us into greater truth and authenticity. Together, they may sharpen our sense of who we are at our center, so that even as the world swirls and turns, we might anchor more deeply into our authentic selves. This process can unfold in waves, with moments of clarity alternating with moments of grief or disorientation. We benefit from welcoming both as intrinsic parts of our process.
On a happier note, Jupiter in Cancer, just recently stationed to direct motion, is, during this New Moon, making a same-degree square to Venus and a trine to Mars in Pisces. There is an expansive and motivating quality available here, suggesting that spiritual depth and emotional wisdom can guide our values, choices, and actions. Our hearts carry enormous intelligence now. During this New Moon, and the lunar cycle that follows, you may find yourself listening more deeply for what kind of heart-centered thoughts and actions feel most affirming to your own individual life force.
May this New Moon in the deep waters of Pisces offer to each one of us a moment of genuine renewal. May it refresh our imagination and reconnect us to a vision of what is possible. And may we each find the thread back to ourselves, again and again, as we navigate together this wild and transformative time.
