A New Moon of Strong Feelings, Introspection, Relationship Surprises, and Novel Beginnings

The early morning New Moon of Tuesday, July 14th, taking place at 2:43 am PDT, continues July’s major outer planet alignments with Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto all at 4° of their respective signs, and so one question regarding the impact of this Cancer lunation would be to ask to what extent these major planetary players at this significant juncture are supported by, and additionally affect, the personal planets. One answer here is that Venus, at 5° Virgo, fills this bill, being quite closely square Uranus in Gemini, and the subject of a tight yod from Neptune and Pluto, at 4° of Aries and Aquarius, themselves in perfect sextile. Jupiter at 3° Leo, opposing Pluto within one and a half degrees, additionally strongly aspects, by trine and sextile, the other two of these outer planets, enhancing their action. These correspondences imply that the transformational cycle that has characterized the July month from its very beginning is nowhere near abating. Meanwhile, to consider the implications of a surge of Cancer energy implied by Sun and Moon – along with retrograde Mercury – coming together at or near the third decan of this substantial cardinal Water sign, we might reflect that the Gemini, more thought-provoking, lunation cycle from the previous mid-month is over, with emotional responses now taking primary place.

And there is quite a lot to get into our feelings about. As always with prominent Pluto, we have nostalgia for a past that is going or altogether gone, even though, rationally, this is quite beside the point. The past might be present to us as a poignant emotional reality, but we cannot actually live there. This might apply to each of us personally, as we inevitably evolve, and as it certainly applies to collective realities that we simply must face – as we decide how to move on from there. Coming as this does in the Cancer sign, just ahead of this Cancer New Moon, this might have offered to us a moment of almost clairvoyance over what we are dealing with, emotionally and also rationally, in our private lives and as well collectively, and as the powerful metamorphosis of these summer months continues. If we did gain certain insights in recent days, we might take the New Moon moment of this Monday late evening and Tuesday morning to reflect on where we indeed are at, and perhaps to use ritual to mark the occasion.

To reiterate the powerful and potentially stressful position of aesthetic and relationship-oriented Venus at this potent New Moon juncture, we find her in square to Trickster Uranus, and aspected as well by Neptune and Pluto, so therefore in a moment of truth concerning illusions, ideals, and the overwhelming potential for evolutionary change in our partnering dynamic. With Uranus there can be surprises, unexpected plot twists, and an ongoing series of revelations from an intuitional perspective. Then, with Pluto, you oftentimes just have to give in. You can go willingly, or you can go slowly and reluctantly, but either way you are going. This is not necessarily trouble although it is metaphorical transformation. It might be difficult in the moment and seem like “the worst day,” and yet with the passage of time resolve as actually one of the best days of your life. In any case it is, once again, vital that we be alert, or as alert as possible, to everything that is going on.

As far as the communal picture, here in the United Sates at least, both parties must somehow face the fact that we have gone just about as far as possible in something of an authoritarian direction. Together we must seek a turning point as the looming November election nears amidst fears that our votes will actually be counted. If they are, and if democracy continues to flourish here in its modern cradle, despite everything, that will be our collective triumph. It seems to be setting up as well that it will take everything we’ve got.
