A Full Moon Eclipse of Conflicting Desires, Illusions, and Contrasts

A Full Moon Eclipse of Conflicting Desires, Illusions, and Contrasts

The Virgo Full Moon and lunar eclipse transpires on the late evening March 13th, taking place at 11:55 pm on the west coast, PT, or early morning on the 14th for other time zones farther east. In this eclipse Full Moon configuration, the Sun is conjunct limiting and contractive Saturn, which slows us down and yet is good for lasting lessons, while Uranus is also highlighted, being in close trine to the Virgo Moon, and closely sextile the Pisces Sun. The eclipse Moon and Sun also aspect Eris at 24° of Aries. Meanwhile, Mercury is standing almost dead still in the sky, preparing to station retrograde just 24 hours past the midnight timing of this March 14th Full Moon, while Venus is also moving backward through early Aries. And as well, among outer planets correspondences, the Sun is closely septile to Pluto in early Aquarius, while numinous Neptune is parallel both Sun and Eris. All in all, this is quite a heady stew of outer planet activations, as well as inner planet retrogrades, along with an extremely potent Full Moon energy due to it being a total lunar eclipse.

The additional retrograde of Mercury through Aries means that for the remainder of the March month, Mercury follows Venus backward through the first decant of the sign, staying about three degrees behind her. They conjoin in a triple conjunction with Saturn in the first week of April, with Mercury stationing direct on April 7th, Venus on April 12th, and Mercury finally escaping its post-retrograde shadow by April 26th. During the next six weeks after this Full Moon eclipse, in other words, we will want to be aware that things we are engaged in might shift in unforeseen ways when we get to May.

In this Full Moon eclipse also, there are several outer planet contrasts that are exposed by the highlighting of their antithesis, including Saturn with Neptune, Saturn with Uranus, and Uranus with Pluto. To take these contrasts one by one, let us consider Saturn with Neptune. These are antithetical archetypes, the one, Saturn, having to do with the here and now, the physical world and its limitations, while the other, Neptune, more with what is beyond the physical, the mystical world that has its own reality – even possibly a greater reality in certain ways than the 3D world of the five senses that at times seems to be all there is. To that physical experience, Neptune seems illusory, fantasy, deceptive, misleading, and yet Neptune is also, in his own way, ultimately real. These two archetypes are coming into even greater combination and contrast over the summer months when they align in Aries.

As far as also Saturn with Uranus, this is another pair of antithetical archetypes that are both featured in this dynamic Full Moon eclipse. One, Saturn, wants to stick to the tried and proven, the boring day-to-day details of convention and rule-following, while the other, Uranus, wants to break all the rules and establish new conventions that have never been seen before. With both of these powerful archetypes highlighted for the remainder of the March month, and, since eclipses have longer influence than more ordinary lunations, for the next six months as well, leading eventually to a quieter fall season, we are in for quite a ride. There will be surprises and potentially as well, unexpected realizations in keeping with prominent Uranus. We will have to struggle to keep our heads on straight, utilizing utmost discernment in attempt to sort out the wheat from the chaff, as we proceed.

It is interesting also note that regarding Pluto with Uranus, they are coming into a trine arrangement this summer, with Uranus in early Gemini while Pluto in retrograde remains in the early degrees of Aquarius. I see this current configuration, along with this entire period – leading up to late in the year – as a resurgence in some ways of the volatile 1960s, when Uranus and Pluto were conjunct in Virgo, and when people’s minds were shading into rebellion and reversal of the existing status quo. This summer they will be in close trine, beginning on July 7th, when Uranus enters Gemini, and while Neptune in Aries is at their midpoint. So, again, for these coming summer months, look out! Reefs and mountains ahead… time, and past time, to keep close track of where exactly you stand!

With Mercury also retrograde, or recovering, for the next six weeks as well, the March and April days ahead will be inevitably more introspective ones, when we will be researching, reviewing, and potentially making adjustments in the areas of our charts ruled by Mercury and Venus, thus Gemini, Taurus, Virgo, and Libra, plus of course the Aries sign itself where they are travelling in reverse motion. We will want to make judgements, perhaps radical ones, and yet we are also advised to take a “wait and see” attitude. If you don’t like the prevailing psychic weather pattern, just give it a little time. It will change!

So, in ultimate consideration, with all this furor and uncertainty coming up, we all really need to keep our heads, especially when, as Kipling has it, “all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you.” You must, in actuality, retreat to that inner knowing that comes to you as intuition, from an amalgam of conscious and unconscious layers within your psyche. That you can trust, when perhaps nothing else can be relied upon. It is your own internal moral compass that will, in spite of everything, tell you true.
