Friday’s Full Moon, occurring at about 1:30 PM PST, later afternoon and evening for points east, is an exciting lunation mostly due to aspects made by the Sun and Moon to outer planets. The Taurus Moon, at 24°, is within one degree of a conjunction to Trickster Uranus, at 25°, which could symbolize unexpected events and startling revelations over the final two weeks of the November month. The Sun and Moon additionally closely aspect KBO planet Eris, Feminine Warrior in support of soul intention, by same-degree quincunx and semi-sextile, Eris being at 24° of Aries. This is lending an exciting layer of gravitas to this aspect pattern. Eris represents finding – deep within yourself – your true bottom-line values, and, coming at the world from this perspective, taking a stand as necessary for what you unequivocally hold dear. This inner determination of values comes uniquely from your own individual standpoint, unaffected by the mirage of false identities engendered by early conditioning or consensus thought forms, and is therefore quite an interesting pairing with Uranus, both emphasized in this Full Moon. Uranus represents revelatory information that can come at us from an entirely intuitive level, perhaps flying in the face of more normative logical conclusions, while Eris supports going with your gut, no matter what, once it is that you have identified your principles and values are in this way brought to the fore, inciting action.
Against the backdrop of the other astrological indications in these fractious times, the Eris emphasis inclines us to take a stand for our own understanding of events, and to go by strictly these internal motivations. In this way, rather than being swayed by circumstance, we are independent agents, knowing as we do our own deeply held beliefs and attitude. In this way, we are free.
Along with prominent Uranus, the other two outer planets that form a threesome with Uranus are almost equally affected; Neptune at 27° of Pisces is sextile to Uranus in Taurus, while Pluto at 29° of Capricorn is sextile to Neptune, and in a wider trine aspect to Uranus, so that all three of these indicators of transpersonal alignment are working together to some extent in this Full Moon timing. Neptune can take us literally out of this 3D world of the physical plane, representing imagination and idealism, as well as the potential for deception, including self-deception, while Pluto represents the necessary transformation of what we currently have going, as we evolve. There are times when we, like the snake, must shed our old skin in order to embrace a deeper conception of life as we are living it, and this Full Moon signals the closing period of the 2024 year as one of those times.
Interestingly, also, there are strong Mercury components to this Full Moon configuration. Mercury opposes Jupiter for enthusiasm, forms a minor aspect of sesquiquadrate with Mars for energy, and is trine Chiron, which could involve tuning into any potentially painful situations that we may encounter, either personally or collectively, with an attitude of healing. In regard to the ongoing Pluto- Haumea square that I have described elsewhere, Mercury in this Full Moon resides at the Haumea-Pluto midpoint, in semi-square to each end, therefore bringing the issue of truth verses untruth into the conversation now as well. In any case, it looks to be a thoughtful time, these next two weeks, heading into the December month and its Mercury Retrograde period that lasts for its entirety.
Additionally, with Uranus and Pluto both so unequivocally highlighted in this Full Moon, we might remember that their combination, as described by Richard Tarnas in his masterwork Cosmos and Psyche, referenced times of revolutionary impulse, a changing of the guard, as exemplified by their conjunction during the 1960s. Using the 15° orb that Tarnas recommends for what he calls “World Transits,” the time period thus defined describes that of the counterculture quite precisely, as the years from 1960 to 1972. With Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto currently highlighted in this Full Moon we might be seeing something of this same idea of a counter-establishment impulse being momentarily invoked.
Using this same 15° orb for Saturn and Neptune, incidentally, which is their current number of degrees of separation, with Saturn at 12° Pisces while Neptune lies at 27° we might also make mention of the fact that we are in the conjunction point as well of Saturn-Neptune, by Tarnas’ definition, from now until 2027, which Tarnas has spoken of as disillusion with what one formerly believed; the “unmasking of deception” he has called it. Richard Tarnas has also described the Saturn-Neptune axial alignment, such as the one that we are in right now, as rampant polarization, among other issues as that which could be characterized as faith-based versus secular orientation, or by, in his words, red states versus blue states, terminology invented in 2004 when Saturn and Neptune were in opposition. This results, he has stated, in “each side viewing the other side as living in a delusional world of their own construction.” This does seem to describe our own times when Saturn-Neptune has recently swum back into the picture of our current celestial alignments.
So, in the face of all this, what to do, and where to turn? It can be useful and ultimately healing to go to the now-prominent positioning of Eris, Feminine Warrior for soul purpose, in order to feel a little better about our prospects. What we are seeking, after all, is for finding, deep within ourselves, our own authenticity and the spiritual basis to keep going, as Eris encourages in us. Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter, writing from the heart of those mystical 1960s, might have said it best:
There is a road, no simple highway
Between the dawn and the dark of night.
And if you go, no-one may follow
That path is for your steps alone.
You who choose to lead must (in this manner) follow
And if you fall, you fall alone;
If you should stand, then who’s to guide you?
If I knew the way, I would take you home.
With the massive changes that are happening now, I highly recommend that folks get a transit report tailored specifically to their chart for the most accurate description of what's in store for you in the months ahead.
Find out with this report that gives detailed descriptions of your transits for a three, six or twelve month period. This report was written by astrologer Henry Seltzer.
All transits are fully interpreted with insightful clues on how to navigate the challenges ahead and gives the date range for when each transit is in effect. Includes transits to planets Mars through Pluto. Also includes interpretations for Chiron - a unique feature of this report!
