This is a month of feeling your way into greater wholeness, Cancer. This will be in part a matter of logical thought process, and of introspection, and in part an exercise in intuitional knowing that leaves logic far behind. With Mars turning to retrograde motion in a key sector of your chart on September 9th, you are feeling restless regarding your outer world activities, and entertaining alternative ideas in this area. You might find that your work in the world will need to match your deepest underlying principles in order to be truly satisfying. You are still changing mightily at the core, as becomes more and more evident in the second half of this climactic month. The Full Moon that began September has also opened many a new doorway in your thought process, and in your beliefs in general, so that entirely novel possibilities beckon. Although partners come into this, and your transforming relationship dynamic itself, this all depends in the last analysis on you, and on you alone.
The following was written by our resident monthly columnist Elodie St-Onge-Aubut of Ninth House Astrology
The month of September begins with a Full Moon in Pisces in the visionary sector of your chart. You may find yourself dreaming of traveling to exotic places, and all the things you would do if the world were still open. The Full Moon also brings a culmination in connection with a recent project, an educational journey or a philosophical trajectory. Adventures for the time being seem mostly available in your immediate environment. Plan a small day trip somewhere and get to know your neighborhood. Short journeys can bring the perspective you need right now.
Your partnerships come into focus on the 1st and 2nd as Venus in Cancer opposes Saturn in Capricorn. You may desire a serious commitment from a partner or feel like you are not totally getting what you want from a relationship. Although beauty and grace is readily available, sharing these moments with a loved one may be complicated. There could be limitations to what someone is able to offer you at this time creating a sense of lack.
The Moon is in Aries on the 4th and 5th, while Venus in Cancer, squares Mars in Aries, emphasizing your vocational pursuits. There could be mounting tension at work, and you may be wondering if it's still worth it. Mercury enters Libra on the 5th carrying the focus over to your home and your family while Venus’s ingress into Leo on the 6th emphasizes your income. You might encounter some back-and-forth movement at this time between your career and your home life. Venus transiting in Leo in your second house for the rest of the month could show an increase in revenue, a propensity for spending or both.
On September 9th, Mars stations retrograde in Aries, and will be moving retrograde until mid-November. For Cancerians the retrograde of Mars in Aries could indicate a time when you need to adjust your career goals. You may find yourself compromising your profession and your goals in order to make a partnership work.
On the 9th and 10th, Mercury in Libra opposes Chiron in Aries, while the Moon is conjoined with the North Node in Gemini; You may need to assess your motivations honestly at this time, and get to the core of what is your actual inspiration. Your deepest values may need to become more greatly manifested. It's also an excellent time to bring some of your more hidden patterns to the surface. It may feel vulnerable but the exercise can prove to be clarifying. The Moon in Cancer on September 11th and 12th opposes Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn while squaring Mars in Aries, which can feel like an emotional roller coaster. You may not be able to get everything that you want at this time. Partnerships continue to be in a state of flux. Negotiations can prove to be arduous or confusing. Jupiter in Capricorn turns direct on the 12th, and offers hopeful perspectives and support for your partnerships. With the Moon joining Venus in Leo in the eastern skies on September 14th, you could be prompted to splurge on yourself. Find quiet time to regroup and to charge your batteries.
The New Moon in Virgo on September 17th takes place in your communication sector indicating a busy time. With fall arriving quickly you may find yourself preparing the next few months, such as processing fruits and vegetables, making preserves, and getting ready for the colder season. Mercury in Libra presides over this New Moon, emphasizing your home life, and more extensively your partnerships. Mercury is also squaring Jupiter in Capricorn at the time of the New Moon bringing an exaggerated sense of optimism. It can feel like a hopeful time when things are opening up but it's important to stay pragmatic regarding what is possible. During the week of the 21st, Mercury squares Pluto and Saturn in Capricorn, and then squares Mars in Aries, which indicates that whatever is set in motion on the New Moon could meet limiting or aggravating circumstances down the road.
The Sun enters Libra on September 22nd signalling the first day of fall in the Northern Hemisphere and spring in the Southern Hemisphere. The Sun in Libra for the next month emphasizes your family and your foundations. Your home life might feel more important at this time. There also could be renovations or relocations in the works; or you may be wondering if you should move in with a partner.
Mercury enters Scorpio on the 27th, where it will turn retrograde in October. Pay attention to themes connected to romantic partners, your children or a creative project that are coming up at this time, as they may need to be revised next month.
The end of September is colored by Saturn stationing direct in Capricorn on the 28th while squaring Mars retrograde in Aries. This aspect between Mars and Saturn recently occurred once before, on August 24th, so you may start to be familiar with recurring albeit complicated themes playing out in your partnerships. Knowing your boundaries and limitations with others is something you have been working on in these last two years. Saturn stationing direct may be your cue to start applying what you have learned, and making sure your needs are really being met.
