This is the time to dig in, Virgo, and the rewards are great. Your month involves connection at greater depth, both with loved ones and within yourself as well. These weeks of the Mercury Retrograde, only just now fully ending, you have been reconsidering the true meaning of intimacy in your life, and coming to some far-reaching conclusions, although these are perhaps still not fully formulated. This inevitably involves greeting yourself in your own dark places, likely the undigested residue of childhood trauma, which, although we try to hide from them, nevertheless seem to be a fundamental part of the human condition. Try to stay as open as you can to them when they come calling. There are also sudden twists and turns in your love life coming down, and these help to open up doorways inside you. In the final half of May you experience a major shift that opens your eyes, and your heart, to new intuitional understandings.
The following was written by this month's guest columnist Adam Elenbaas of The Nightlight Astrology School
May represents a month of big transitions for every single sign of the zodiac and you are no exception! This is because we have two major, slow-moving planets making big sign (and house) changes back to back. Last month, on April 17th, Chiron entered Aries and therefore moved into your eighth house, and this month, on May 15th, Uranus enters Taurus and will move into your ninth house. Let’s look at each of these ingresses, signaling major life changes, in-depth.
Over the past eight years, the planet Uranus has been moving through your eighth house, creating quite a stir, since this is the planet of sudden changes or disruptions to the status quo. Uranus is a planet of rebellion, discovery, and awakening, as well as shock and disturbance. Because planets in the eighth house are approaching (but have not yet arrived at) the setting place of the western horizon, they were traditionally associated with the fear or anxiety of death or the future. The eighth house was therefore called “the Gate of Hades,” and it was also associated with penalties or loss (again imagine that planets in this area of the sky are moving toward the underworld and will lose light and life). In addition to these topics, the eighth house is also associated with insurance or protection against loss, your spouse or partner’s income or assets, and passive income in general. With Uranus moving through your eighth house since May of 2010, you have been encountering all kinds of challenges and/or significant fluctuations regarding finances and money, and potentially the philosophical subject of finances, money, and the relation to fear or anxiety within your marriage or relationships. Uranus in the eighth house can be about change after change, that shocks us into remembering that nothing in life is ultimately secure. Uranus in the eighth house is also about the Universe’s repeated attempts to wake us up PRIOR to having to deal with unfortunate consequences that will come if we persist in destructive or fearful behavior. Uranus in the eighth house is also about the call to face our fears and anxieties, with courage and trust, and to live with a less controlling and anxious mood overall. Most eighth house experiences convince us that protection against loss or remuneration is the best way to ensure that we are safe and happy in life, but sometimes plans change. Sometimes we have to recognize that our plans, our will or control, and our own individual effectiveness are but small fish in a much bigger pond.
As Uranus finishes its time in the eighth house, it now moves into your ninth house of religion, higher education, and long journeys or foreign places. You are thus ready for a rebirth of your faith or trust in a higher power. You are ready for a revolution in the way you think, as well as the way that you perceive the nature of reality. Uranus moving into the ninth house introduces exotic and counter-cultural ideas or experiences. Uranus in the ninth is the revolution of faith and the awakening of our sense that something bigger than us exists and desires to know us, personally. Uranus in the ninth is the fascination or attraction to offbeat topics or places. After a long journey through the eighth house, Uranus is ready to transform some of the difficulties you’ve been facing into a renewed sense of purpose and meaning.
Some healing and effort is going to be required from you, as well as courage. Just as Uranus enters your ninth house, Chiron has entered your eighth to take Uranus’ place. Astrologers widely agree that Chiron represents two major topics: wounds and the wisdom associated with wounds. While Chiron entering your eighth house will therefore continue to bring up the difficult topics discussed above, the big difference is that where Uranus is about disrupting and awakening us, Chiron is about wounds and the healing of wounds. Chiron is about wisdom and the growth of a new understanding that heals those patterns in our psyche that most deeply afflict us. For you, right now, this means that you might be ready to confront some of the patterns you have been most afraid of or hesitant to address. They may specifically involve things that you do out of anxiety or fear, which in turn may stem from deeper wounding experiences in your past, past traumas you have experienced or harmful things you have done to others. You may also have to look very deeply at issues within your marriage, especially surrounding security and finances, anxieties and avoidance. Or you may find that you are being called to work with others who are suffering, perhaps specifically with some of the above issues.
Remember, as a Virgo you are at best when you are in service and when you feel useful and effective. You are not as useful to anybody when beneath whatever gifts you are giving exists a hidden pool of doubt, fear, insecurity, or woundedness. Everybody is always wanting the real you, so don’t forget that when you show up in an authentic way, that is just as good as the practical things you are so used to giving. So time to be real!
Finally, the same day that Uranus is moving into Taurus, May 15th, there will also be a New Moon in Taurus in your ninth house, and the planet Mars will simultaneously enter Aquarius, squaring Uranus into the 21st of the month. The New Moon adds to the brand-new energy of Uranus moving into your ninth house, emphasizing powerful themes related to religion, higher education, long journeys or the added perspective of foreign cultures. Meanwhile, Mars entering your sixth house of service, labor, and sickness points to changes related to your health, with who or what you are called to be in service to in the world, or to a period of very hard work or challenges related to work. These changes are directly correlated to and amplifying the transformative power of Uranus as it enters your ninth house. It’s therefore truly a dynamic month for you, with the middle of the month highlighted as a particularly powerful time.
