This is a month of consolidating gains, Virgo. You have been profoundly inside yourself in a sort of introverted haze, and this month you are beginning to take the first few steps as the new toddler that has emerged. Your intuition continues to be powerful, and brings you information that could arrive from no other source, sparking an odd intimacy within yourself. Partners in your life are still part mystery, part idealizations of who you imagine them to be. The bubble bursts but when it does can be replaced with a truer and more spiritual commitment. You have been doing quite a lot of soul-searching in these recent weeks, dipping into family matters, and attempting as well to see how relationship with important others fits into the picture. After mid-month you have tons of energy for deep diving, delving down into new psychic territory, coming up with the pearl that will in turn become the seed of renewed creativity.
The following was written by this month's guest columnist Adam Elenbaas of The Nightlight Astrology School
Happy New Year, Virgo! I hope you are having a wonderful holiday season and that you are feeling renewed and ready for a powerful year ahead. This month gets started with the recent ingress of Saturn into Capricorn, which happened just as we passed through the gateway of the winter solstice a few weeks ago. Whenever a planet changes signs in Sun Sign horoscopy it also changes houses. Saturn has thus entered your fifth house to stay for the next two to three years, where the emphasis will be on children, pregnancy, creativity, joy, and recreation.
One of the main things that ties all the themes of the fifth house together is the theme of childlike joy and creativity. However, Saturn is a planet of maturity, seriousness, commitment, and discipline. You may therefore be entering a long season of creative commitment, a time where you will find yourself working very diligently toward the accomplishment of creative goals and projects. Alternatively, you might be doing some deeper karmic work with children, perhaps your own children, or you might be doing some healing work around your own creative inhibitions. Saturn in the fifth house for some Virgos might mean that you are working way too hard and need to be more playful. On the other hand, Saturn in the fifth house could indicate that it’s time to be more serious and grounded, putting childish things behind you for the time being. As a Virgo you will always strive to show others that you are serious, effective, helpful, and skilled, but it’s also important that you not judge yourself too harshly. Don’t forget that the Universe likes to measure the heart and soul we bring to things, not just the results.
The first of the month will feature a Full Moon in Cancer in your eleventh house of friends, allies, groups, and wishes/hopes for the future. You might find that your friends or social life is highlighted at this time. Don’t be surprised, given the stack up of Capricorn planets opposite this Full Moon (in your fifth house), if there are some creative conflicts between you and your friends, colleagues, or allies to start the month. You may also find that new ideas, projects, or creative collaborations are forming around you. Trust the process and don’t worry just yet about the details. Allowing yourself to ride some emotional waves now and then will bring new life and energy to everything that you do, so try to enjoy whatever emotional intensity might surround this Full Moon!
On January 6th, Mars will conjoin Jupiter in your third house. This is an invigorating and inspiring transit taking place in your house of sibling, communication, and short journeys. You might be feeling the need to communicate something you are feeling particularly passionate about, and you may need to communicate in a manner that is uncharact Eristically bold or aggressive. Though you are naturally an earthy child of Mercury, it’s important to speak up and speak out if you’re feeling strongly about something. You may also find that conversations about values and beliefs are important right now, perhaps particularly with your siblings or childhood friends. Mars and Jupiter conjoining in your third house may also indicate that you are growing intellectually or perhaps becoming a more masterful and confident student or communicator.
On January 10th, Mercury will enter Capricorn and immediately conjoin Saturn in your fifth house. Watch for an important message, piece of news or information coming through around this time. It’s also a good time to reach agreements, to negotiate the terms of a contract, or to reach or communicate your bottom line. Mercury coming together with Saturn in the fifth house may also emphasize important conversations or communication with children, or the topics of children and education, or children and technology. This is a great time to begin a creative project because Saturn in Capricorn provides a very solid foundation for Mercurial things like writing, communicating, speaking, teaching, or learning. With Mercury and Saturn coming together, expect the things you say and do around this time to have lasting effects.
January 16th is the date of the Capricorn New Moon, also taking place in your fifth house, and in conjunction with Venus. Your understanding of intimacy is expanding and likely to take off in new directions, while renewed creativity will come to the fore far more strongly.
On January 17th, Venus will enter Aquarius and move into your sixth house. The sixth house was traditionally called “bad fortune,” and it was also called “the joy of Mars.” The topics associated with the sixth house broadly represent the everyday misfortunes and suffering that exist in the world, but also with the call to serve others, to heal others or be healed, to learn and grow through humbling experiences, or to fight on behalf of a cause. Broadly speaking, Venus entering your sixth house at this time might mean that you are feeling especially sensitive to the suffering of others, or that close friends or even lovers are reaching out to you for help this month. As a Virgo you are naturally inclined to help out and step forward when your name is called, but don’t forget that there is absolutely no shame in seeking help from others, as well. Sometimes the best opportunities for deepening our relationships with others come when we are vulnerable enough to ask for help. This is sometimes hard for Virgos who frequently feel responsible for far more than they should.
Finally, on January 26th, Mars will enter Sagittarius and move into your fourth house of home and family. This could signal a period where intensity and passion are on the rise in your home or among your family members. The Moon, natural ruler of the fourth, together with unconscious process, is also greatly emphasized at the timing of the Lunar Eclipse of the 31st. This takes place along your twelfth – sixth house axis, so therefore highlighting another of the Water houses. It’s also not surprising, when Mars is in the fourth house, especially during wintertime (for those in the Northern Hemisphere) to see a few family members going down like dominoes with seasonal colds. The following weeks make for a great period for renovations and changes to your home or living situation, yet also be careful, as Mars in the fourth house can also indicate that tempers are running a little hot on the home front. Confront whatever you may need to confront in your private life, and try to have fun with this transit, remembering to be as graceful and forgiving as others as you would want others to be of you.
