You are steeped in intimacy this month, Leo, perhaps most importantly intimacy with yourself. You have been rethinking your approach to creativity of all kinds, including romantic engagement, and also with regard to a future focus on how you might apply your talents out in the world. Because Mercury has been retrograding through a key sector of your chart, ending on December 6th, this second weekend of the month represents a shift in the astrological currents and is also full of idealism, and as well a touch of illusion, toward partners. You are suddenly more aware than ever of your possibilities there and also of the pitfalls engendered by old wounding, the result of early childhood trauma, that can hold you back unless and until you work through some of these issues and bring your inner complexes into the light of day. The remainder of this month is well suited for that activity, thereby freeing you up to be the most authentic self that you can be.
The following was written by this month's guest columnist Adam Elenbaas of The Nightlight Astrology School
The month begins on the heels of Venus’ opposition to Uranus (November 30th), which fell across your 3rd and 9th houses, in the signs of Libra and Aries. The month ahead is toned by this transit, which reflects a revolution of ideas and beliefs, learning and communication, and has likely been rocking or enlivening some of your friendships or intimate partnerships.
The rest of the month is also all about the sign of Sagittarius and your fifth house of creativity, joy, pregnancy, and children, along with the sign of Pisces and your eighth house of death, anxiety, transformation, and “other people’s money.” Each of the following transits will put these themes into the spotlight while simultaneously adding the uniqueness of the individual planets involved.
On December 2nd, the Sun in Sagittarius in your fifth house will square Mars in Pisces in the eighth house, signaling an opportunity for peace and joy despite the inevitable challenges depicted by Mars in the house of death and rebirth. The Sun can help you to make the most of things right now, or to find a sense of faith and trust in times of uncertainty about the future.
Late evening on December 6th, continuing into the next day, the New Moon in Sagittarius also falls in your fifth house, making a square to the Mars/Neptune conjunction taking place in Pisces in the eighth house. Traditionally the fifth house was called “the house of good fortune,” and it was related to benefits that came to the individual over time, including the gift of children or the inheritance of family wealth. At the same time, it was related to happiness and creativity. On the other hand, the eighth house is seen as a place of uncertainty, death, and foreboding, but it is also a place where benefits often come to a person through challenges or even misfortune. This New Moon in your fifth house, square to Mars and Neptune in your eighth, suggests that happiness and even creative fulfillment is available to you right now, but it may be appearing by way of the sacrifices or hardships of others, or through emotional losses or a deep encounter with your personal fears or anxieties. It’s important to ask the question, “What is the cost of real contentment, creative fulfillment, and my long-term health'” Plan for your long-term happiness and peace of mind, and don’t be afraid if it involves some degree of compromise or sacrifice. In the long run, it will be worth it.
On December 20th, the Sun in Sagittarius in your fifth house will trine Uranus in Aries in your ninth house of spirituality and the higher mind. You are likely to feel charged up by new insights and creative inspiration, or you might be overwhelmed by the desire to learn something new or to seek out adventure. Acting on your principles right now may also require courage and the willingness to defy boundAries.
On December 21st, Mercury will conjoin Jupiter in Sagittarius in your fifth house, bringing themes of bigness, intelligence, and creative self-expression. Your faith and sincerity are contagious to others and likely bringing you greater admiration and respect from others. However, you should also be careful of exaggeration or grandiosity, or even arrogance, and be sure to think carefully before making big plans or big announcements.
Finally, on December 24th, Mercury in Sagittarius in your fifth house will square Neptune in Pisces in your eighth house, bringing last month’s Mercury Retrograde back to the same place it got started. Right now, you have both the sensitivity and the creative intelligence needed to turn life’s chaos into order, your fears into your teachers, and personal challenges into future assets. However, to create these results you need to be honest with yourself and you need to see through the illusions of quick fixes or temporary gratification.
Other transits to think about this month include the Winter Solstice on December 21st. The Sun will move into Capricorn and into your sixth house, where it will place an emphasis on hard work, employees or staff, sickness and service in the weeks ahead. Then right after the Solstice, on December 22nd, the Full Moon in Cancer will travel through the deep solitude and vastness of your twelfth house, highlighting themes of universal compassion, sickness and sorrows, as well as deep inwardness and emotional healing. It’s a unique month, calling you to step forward while also asking you to grow inwardly and to mature emotionally. Also, note that in the month to come you will receive your first eclipses in these houses, as well, so stay tuned for more next month!
