This is yet another month of important transition, Leo, even though a bit short in terms of concrete accomplishment. With Mercury currently retrograde, your progress is likely to be of an introspective kind, measured in attitude shifts and stages of preparation for coming greatness. You are quite introspective now. Areas of intensity are issues of higher mind: learning and teaching, perhaps foreign travel, beliefs and worldview. You are perfecting your notions of life mission, and you may discover that this involves an ideal of service to others. Startling realizations come fast and furious, and not all will survive the tests of practicality and of time. Those that do become tenets of a new way of seeing the world around you that makes for a better jumping-off point, leading to a more magical and expansive future than has lately seemed plausible, or even possible.
As the month begins, you are still reveling in the New Moon from the end of December, which was powerful, and evocative of the mystical realities underlying your ordinary everyday ones. There is a way that you create the world by your beliefs, as new thought proponents have recently reminded us. Certainly it is a relative truth, rather than absolute, as it could equally be said that the world exists independently and that we must make accommodation to it. However no one would deny any longer that attitude is everything, and that optimism will get you further down the road than pessimism. Judging from the astrological indications, you have a dose of each in your current philosophical make-up. The Mercury Retrograde period that began in the last third of December has been a strong one, and this also shows up as attitude. We are enjoined to look inside ourselves at this time, and to make adjustments when what we see does not provide a good match with what we want to manifest. Because this is a meditative time, and because expansive Jupiter is prominent during January, and located in your sector of communications and learning, this is an excellent moment to pay the closest attention to your trending understandings and incipient beliefs, and to journal about these or discuss them, perhaps passionately, with your peers.
The Jupiter-Uranus opposition is greatly favored, Uranus being conjunct the new planet, Eris, symbolizing taking a stand for what you deeply believe. These are located in your sector of higher mind, with Jupiter opposed, indicating that this is a tremendous time of optimism and expansionist learning; a time for finding within yourself the creative impulse to rethink the world around you into a new brightness of being. Your wild mental impulses will, however, be tempered by a strong practicality, so that not everything that you have a notion to embody will be sensible or achievable. This contrasting attitude of concreteness, or hard-and-fast reality testing, bordering on cynicism, is symbolized in your astrological map by prominent Saturn, equally potent now with Jupiter. Saturn makes significant aspects to both Jupiter and Uranus all month long, and is also greatly triggered at the time of the Cancer Full Moon of January 12th,when the Sun and Moon form a Grand Cross with Jupiter and Uranus/Eris. This is a testing time, when you will attempt to determine which of your schemes and dreams may be ultimately viable. When you can believe in yourself, and in the universe to guide you, and are not deterred by seeming failures, everything will come out all right.
