David Bowie: A Legend Made of Stars

David Bowie was a unique soul who stirred us all.

A Capricorn with Aquarius rising and a twelfth-house Sun, he was practical but in his own unique, mystical and sometimes other-worldly way. The androgynously artistic persona of glam that he evolved did seem to have the air of a being newly arrived on planet earth, for the benefit of its less-aware natives. He saw clearly into the future, famously remarking, in 1999, that the Internet was an alien who had already landed.

In his stage presence, he made us think of a gender beyond simple modalities of male and female, emphasizing feminine sensitivity without giving up a super-abundance of the masculine, which never, however, lapsed into the merely macho.

To see the qualities that he exhibited reflected in his natal chart — shown below — we might emphasize the following: Sun closely conjunct masculine Mars, in the 12th house; the presence of lovely and feminine Venus at the very top of his chart, close to the MC, indicating a career path of art and beauty; a Grand Trine in Fire between this Sagittarius Venus, the Moon in Leo, and the new planet, Eris, in early degrees of Aries, all close aspects; as part of the foregoing configuration, Saturn conjunct the Moon on the descendant of his natal chart, trine Eris, an aspect that shows a nurturing concern for the underdog in any situation; from the strong Eris in the second house we would expect someone who developed to the hilt the inner resources of his talents, in a unique and self-defined way, proceeding, as the TimePassages interpretation text reads in part, with "grounding in a resourced place corresponding to your inner compass of what feels right for you, independent of other voices or attitudes."

In an additional statement regarding David Bowie's ultra-femininity in service to higher Self, it is also interesting to note the highlighted presence of Pallas and Vesta in his natal chart. Pallas, one of the four major goddess asteroids and located on his ascendant, opposite his Moon, stands for Pallas Athena, the crafts-woman warrior goddess, known for her wisdom, prominent in Greek mythology. The symbolism of Pallas thus shows up, front and center in David Bowie's chart, and in his life. That was one thing that we could always count on; to go along with his outrageous stage presence there was always his fundamental wisdom. His art was always on the side of humanity, standing up for informed compassion, no matter what.

Another of these asteroid goddesses, Vesta, is closely conjunct Eris in Aries, and in partile trine to his angular Moon, participating in the Grand Fire Trine. In this regard it is interesting to note that Vesta is the brightest of the four major asteroids; her symbolism suggesting the "vestal virgin" temple priestesses of the ancient Greek world, and their commitment to no man, but rather to their own inner flame of service to humanity. The other two of these important four asteroids, Juno and Ceres, are also emphasized in Bowie's chart, making for additional evidence of the powerfully feminine perspective that he continually evidenced in his stage and film performances.
