ASPECT ORBS

Aspect orbs define how close two planets must be to form a recognized aspect in the chart. Each type of aspect has a specific degree range—or “orb”—within which it is considered active and shown in the chart or interpretation section. Wider orbs allow more aspects to be recognized, while tighter orbs result in a more selective display.

In TimePassages, orbs are preset based on the type of aspect and the chart being viewed. For example, major aspects like conjunctions, oppositions, trines, squares, and sextiles have wider orbs than minor aspects such as semi-sextiles or quintiles. The orbs are also slightly adjusted depending on the chart type—natal, transit, progression, solar return, or compatibility—as each has its own interpretive emphasis. Additionally, whenever the Sun or Moon is involved in an aspect, the orb is increased by 50%, reflecting their stronger influence. For a complete list of the orbs used in TimePassages, look under Default Chart Settings in the Settings tab of the app.
