This is another interesting and potentially difficult month, Cancer, with quite a lot depending on the attitude with which you approach events, and their tidings. The recent Scorpio New Moon, from the final two weeks of November, featured your creativity and the several different ways that area is evolving for you, lasting into the first three weeks of the current month. There is as well in this ongoing lunation cycle, especially in the timing of the Gemini Full Moon of December 4th, the likelihood of intuitional flashes of novel awareness that you can appreciate all the more when you can stay open to this potential knowing from deep within. Chiron, the Wounded Healer, also prominent in this Full Moon configuration, and located in your tenth or vocational sector, could manifest as inner wounding suddenly coming up, bringing up painful experiences, likely based on early childhood trauma. As this arises, one knee-jerk tendency is to attempt to ignore or avoid these realizations, although you do so at your peril. The best response might be to lovingly accept these interior reminders of deficiency and to reach out to the lost and lonely part of you that they represent, perhaps long buried away, to offer better integration and a road to healing. The next major lunation of the month is the December 19th late Sagittarius New Moon, taking place right on the very edge of your relationship sector and hence, due to Neptune’s strong presence in this month’s astrology, affecting partnership in your life with perhaps a trace of optimistic attitude bordering on over-idealism, confusion, or even self-deception. It again might help to take what occurs to you with “a grain of salt,” as provisional, and, rather than resorting to condemnation, make everything the subject of curiosity.
The following was written by our in-house astrologer, Leslie Benson.
Previous New Moon – from November 19th
December opens with the lingering resonance of the preceding Scorpio New Moon of November 19th, which activated your fifth sector of creativity, pleasure, romance, and self-expression. This lunation arrived in a rare configuration with the Sun and Moon conjunct Mercury Cazimi, illuminating something that may have been buried within your creative instinct or psychological landscape. This Sun, Moon, Mercury combo is very rare, and also sponsored a potent grand kite formation with Saturn and Neptune in Pisces, Jupiter in your own sign, and Uranus in Taurus, which weaves a remarkable aspect pattern of startling revelation, insight, and deeper feeling, still potent during the first three weeks of December. Something about your personal joy, your inner child, or your creativity may have come sharply into focus, perhaps surprising you with its intensity. As December begins, you may notice the subtle ways this awareness continues to ripple outward, inviting a more authentic relationship with what lights you up at a soul level.
Mercury Direct and Recovering, since November 29th
After Mercury stationed direct on November 29th, in early December it is beginning its slow shift from inward reflection toward clearer expression. As this unfolds over December’s first two weeks, Mercury retraces its retrograde path through your fifth sector of joy, romance, and creativity before re-entering your sixth or service sector on December 11th, and finally clears its shadow on December 16th. This recovery phase may feel like emotional sorting out, as you integrate insights from November into the flow of daily life. Conversations may ease, though some themes still call for patience or refinement.
Gemini Full Moon – December 4th
The Full Moon in Gemini on December 4th lights up your twelfth sector of dreams, intuition, and the unconscious. This lunation may highlight something previously unseen or unspoken, offering an emotional release or a sudden understanding that helps you connect inner and outer realities. Full Moons are always significant for Cancerians, ruled by the Moon, and this one may feel particularly internal, and inwardly reflective, or tender. You might become more aware of what you have been carrying lately, quietly in the background, and how rest, retreat, or spiritual practices can help you metabolize the insights emerging from the wake of the New Moon and of Mercury’s retrograde period.
Jupiter Trine Saturn – Ongoing Through Mid-December
Jupiter, traveling in its exalted territory of your sign of Cancer, has been trine to Saturn in Pisces since mid-October and continues into mid-December, harmonizing the energy between your first sector of identity and your ninth sector of perspective and growth. This supportive alignment may help you integrate personal development with broader meaning, philosophy, or long-range vision. You may feel more anchored in who you are becoming, even if the path is still forming beneath your feet. With Jupiter traveling through your sign, your emotional intelligence and intuitive knowing are amplified, and Saturn offers structure to help you shape new possibilities with steadiness and intention.
Sun, Mars, and Venus Square Saturn–Neptune Throughout the Month
Throughout December, the Sun, Mars, and Venus in late Sagittarius form square aspects to Saturn and Neptune in Pisces, preceding each of these planet’s ingress into your opposite sign of Capricorn. Because this activates tension between your sixth, seventh, and ninth sectors; that is to say, your sectors of day-to-day habitual behaviors, key partnerships, and high mind studies and philosophy. In these moments you may notice an invitation to weave your beliefs and broader ideals into the fabric of daily life. This entire monthly cycle asks you to discern which visions carry real substance and which remain more aspirational than practical. You may feel called to ground your intuition in lived experience while still making room for wonder and imaginative possibility.
Neptune Stations Direct – December 10th
Neptune’s station direct on December 10th deepens the focus on your ninth sector of higher mind and educational or travel initiatives, illuminating a subtle but meaningful shift in how you make sense of the world and your place within it. This station may bring a gentle awakening or reveal something long gestating in your imagination or spiritual life. You might notice increased sensitivity to symbolism, dreams, or synchronicities, as well as a growing desire for inspiration or connection with what feels sacred.
Mars Enters Capricorn – December 14th
Mars enters Capricorn on December 14th, energizing your seventh sector of partnership, collaboration, and important one-to-one connections. This may bring momentum into relational dynamics, perhaps prompting honest conversations, clarified boundaries, or more intentional engagement. You may feel motivated to move toward partnership goals or to renegotiate agreements so that they serve your evolving needs. Mars in Capricorn is steady, focused, and disciplined, encouraging you to take relational commitments seriously.
Sagittarius New Moon – December 19th
The Sagittarius New Moon of December 19th offers a fresh beginning in your sixth sector of daily life, wellness, and routines. This lunation may inspire a desire to reorganize your schedule, refine habits, or articulate new intentions for how you care for your body and mind. With Mercury still recovering in this part of your chart, this New Moon may feel like a synthesis of recent insights, helping you identify the practices that sustain your sense of grounding and emotional clarity.
Sun Enters Capricorn – December 21st
The Sun’s entrance into Capricorn on December 21st in the Capricorn Solstice highlights your seventh or relationship sector once again, marking a period of increased attention on partners, interpersonal dynamics, and mutual support. This seasonal turning point may illuminate the relational threads that matter most to you, offering a renewed sense of presence within your connections.
Venus Enters Capricorn – December 24th
Venus enters Capricorn on December 24th, softening and harmonizing the themes activated by Mars and the Sun. This brings warmth, receptivity, and potential ease into relationship dynamics, helping you build bridges where needed, deepen the foundations of trust and care, and center in your self-worth, as you prepare to go forth into the coming new year!
