This September is no easy ride and will call upon you to marshal your resources. And yet, paradoxically, it is also nothing that you cannot handle. The way is laid open before us by the three outer planets of Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, stemming from the recent New Moon at 0° of the Virgo sign, and additionally the most outer of the ancient planets that were known many centuries before these, Saturn. These four planetary archetypes participate in a very meaningful way in the lunation configurations that govern September. While recent months have emphasized all four of these mightily, in this month they might be the most starkly present of all, because of the closeness of their positions at the 1-degree mark of their various signs: Uranus in Gemini, Neptune and Saturn conjunct, with Neptune at 1° of Aries, and Pluto now having retrograded back to 1° of Aquarius. Thus we have Uranus in partile or same-degree trine with Pluto, with Saturn/Neptune at the midpoint, sextile to both. Because the recent New Moon degree, being 0°, is also quite close to 1°, this actually gives us two extremely close yod alignments, often called the “Finger of God” aspect pattern, on the one hand focused on Sun and Moon, and on the other a focus on the new 21st century planet Haumea, located at 1° Scorpio, square to Pluto; more on this latter below. The tight yod to the New Moon is quite significant, presaging intuitional enlightenment, mystical realizations, and, if we are ready to take it up, ongoing transformational pressure to be who we were all along meant to be.
The Saturn/Neptune conjunction in early Aries is interesting archetypally in and of itself, as essentially antithetical factors brought into combination, and plus there is its strong presence, in the first two degrees of Aries, thus in close aspect to the New Moon degree. Saturn is all about the limitations, and perhaps the trials and tribulations, of the 3D world of so-called reality, while Neptune transcends that physical limitation, and can thus represent illusion or escapism, getting away from the physical. And yet, Neptune has his own reality apart from the earthly realms, in psychic connection with Spirit and with numinous other-dimensionality. Together, they make this transcendent world more concretely realized, while also bringing an elusive insubstantiality to the simple here and now details of life on this planet. They also bring these archetypal significations to wherever they wind up landing in one’s natal chart.
Pluto in sextile, as the Lord of Death and Rebirth, primarily represents transformation, the ending of what was once significant and yet now has lost its efficacy in one’s life. As Dylan was cogent enough to remind us, everyone must recognize that they are “busy being born” and therefore dying to the old and outmoded patterns of their past selves.
Uranus is featured prominently now in Gemini – being closely square to the New Moon degree – and especially in this informationally oriented Air sign, represents intuitional realizations that arise from within the psyche and are nevertheless quite accurate when we pay attention to this form of knowing. There are with Uranus also the sudden twists and turns of novel circumstances and ideation. Taken together with the other outer planets to which it is closely connected in his aspectual arrangements, there is a rebellion and a necessary evolution away from the fading past and toward the pull of the new evolutionary horizon that beckons. And this applies on both an individual and as well, a societal level.
Jupiter located in mid-Cancer also represent the future calling, and the optimism of unlimited possibility, so that it is quite refreshing that Jupiter, too, is strongly aspected in this defining Virgo New Moon, being in close semi-square, within a degree, to the Sun and Moon.
Finally, in terms of new 21st century planets, the Pluto- Haumea square at 1° of Aquarius and Scorpio, is therefore also tightly triggered in the Virgo New Moon configuration with Haumea being the focal point of a second yod formation, from Saturn/Neptune in Aries and Uranus in Gemini. In my experience as I have been researching these new 21st century Nature planets, Haumea and Makemake, in general and the Pluto- Haumea square in particular, this planetary combo represents the truth of the matter coming out, where there had been at an earlier time, deception and lies. So we might see some more of that going on within the zeitgeist as the September month continues to unfold.
The New Moons that initiated the lunation cycles of the past several months have featured the planetary archetypes described above, although not quite as strongly configured as this upcoming September. Additionally this month, we have, on September 7th, a potent Full Moon and total lunar eclipse in mid-Pisces which aspects Venus at 15° of Leo, and also brings in Mars with Makemake for a greater degree of activism individually and as reflected in the society. This might serve as a culmination of one phase of this important September cycle.
The late Virgo New Moon at 29° of the sign, on the 21st, is also an eclipse, and is therefore another quite potent juncture taking place with Sun and Moon on the very edge of Libra. The Libra Equinox when the Sun enters this cardinal Air sign is the very next day. This New Moon makes a grand trine with Pluto in Aquarius and Uranus in Gemini, bringing on the evolutionary impact of these two mutually rebellious influences.
All in all, we have quite a month on our hands, and it will be up to us how we deal with the events and surprising revelations of this exciting month of metamorphosis. We do well to keep our spirits high and our gaze fixed on the potentially positive outcomes that may be possible if we can act according to the best parts of ourselves, what we come to from within. Blessed be!
