This is another month of contrasts and depth realizations, Aquarius, when your sense of your very identity is shifting. The many days of the long Venus-Pluto from the last twenty days of the previous month as prelude, with the New Year’s Day weekend New Moon in the same sign of Capricorn you are as January begins tuning in to where you have arrived, through significant inner understanding, and the distance you have yet to cover. This is in your quest to achieve the most authentic version of yourself that you can muster. Your finances are fortunate right now and provide a fertile background for the metamorphosis of values that is part of your current mission statement. The mid-month retrograde of Mercury in your sign indicates the start of a thirty-day period of questioning and revising your opinions on many things including your self-concept. This includes home and family issues that continue to arise, as well as articulating concepts you have been forming of your own internal wounding. Inner work has taken you this far, and will be the recipe for your further growth and evolution.

There was, for you, an introspective and self-reflective mood in December that may well carry over to January. At the beginning of the astrological month, the Capricorn New Moon takes place on January 2nd in the sector of your chart that relates to your unconscious needs and desires. Some hidden aspects of yourself could become more obvious and you may be inclined to spend more time delineating your internal world. You may have to confront fears that have a hold on you from the shadows, and which in turn could bring to you greater self-awareness. Understanding where you may feel burdened by taking on responsibilities that do not belong to you could help you let go of the perhaps unrealistic expectations you put on yourself. What could appease some of the tension you may feel, is perhaps spending time on delineating the work or commitments you are willing to take on versus where you might be sacrificing too much.
Mercury enters your sign at the beginning of January, and so learning to better express your needs could therefore prove to be an important feature this month; this is especially so because Mercury slows down in Aquarius as it begins to turns retrograde by mid-month. Pent-up emotions that have been building up in a particular situation might need to be acknowledged before you can really feel comfortable.
Your ruling planet, Uranus, is transiting in the part of your chart that relates to your home and your foundation and forms a supportive trine with the New Moon in Capricorn. Issues of home, dwelling, and family life are thus quite central to this entire month for you. The silver lining in January may be found in your ability to open yourself up to the idea that true stability can only come from within, and that the external world cannot provide you with any real guarantees. What you seek is, and always will be, within.
Jupiter now transiting in Pisces until the second week of May should bring an increased faith in your ability to provide for yourself.
Venus is still moving retrograde in Capricorn and comes into a conjunction with the Sun on the 8th which has a clarifying influence. The second week of January may bring up a situation related to your resources. The Sun sextile Neptune in Pisces could bring a tendency to idealize things. However, your sense of faith could oscillate as Mars in Sagittarius square Neptune on the 11th. It may be hard to know exactly where things are heading but don’t get discouraged. Trusting the process at this time could ensure that you keep your focus on the best possible outcome.
On January 14th, Mercury stations retrograde in your sign and will be moving backward for the next three weeks; recovering for the two after that. You may have the opportunity during this time to refine and perhaps rethink the ways you project yourself into the world. Your inner and outer worlds may need fine tuning so that you can speak from a place of integrity. Recent epiphanies about your shadow-self may get easier to verbalize. However, you may first need to identify what lies in the shadows before you can speak your truth and the next three to four weeks continue to be prime time to do so.
The Full Moon in Cancer on January 17th culminates in the part of your chart that relates to your health and your daily routine. The Full Moon here may highlight things you have been neglecting with regards to your well-being. The Sun conjunct Pluto in Capricorn opposing the Full Moon brings intensity and you may feel a powerful urge to transform or purge what is no longer serving you at this time. It may be easier to identify the areas of your everyday life that flow easily versus the places where you feel stuck or unhappy.
On the 18th, the North and South Nodes of the Moon enter the sign of Taurus and Scorpio respectively signaling the beginning of a one and a half year transit there. The North Node in Taurus may gradually emphasize your domestic life and where you call home while the South Node in Scorpio could bring changes related to your vocation and public life.
The Sun enters your sign of Aquarius on the 19th which signals the middle of winter in the Northern Hemisphere and perhaps a gradual renewed sense of vitality for you. The energizing influence of the Sun could bring an overall sense of ease and clarity for the next thirty days. Mercury Retrograde conjunct the Sun on the 23rd is an important moment in Mercury’s retrograde cycle. After an extended period of reflection, you may be able to get a better sense of what you want. You must recognize that you might not be able to immediately actualize all of your desires, yet you might have a better idea of where you can make progress versus where you may not, instead slowing down your own efforts.
On the 24th, Mars enters Capricorn and he next day Mercury Retrograde re-enters Capricorn from the other side of the sign. This continues to highlight your unconscious processes and the hidden aspects of your personality.
Venus stations direct in Capricorn on the 29th in aspect to Uranus, with the Sun in square, signaling the potential for new information and realizations concerning your desires, and your understanding of your unconscious patterns, including issues of relationships or your sense of self-worth. The conclusion might strike you that the best course of action right now is to wait and see how things unfold in the coming weeks.
