The New Moon lands at 11 pm on Sunday, November 8th on the West Coast, early morning of the 9th for the rest of the country and places farther east. It features Neptune, in an almost perfect sesquiquadrate with the Sun and Moon, plus Pluto and Uranus, still in their almost perfect trine, triggered by the New Moon and the new 21st-century Nature planet Haumea. Other new and traditional planet interactions are also quite interesting. Mostly, though, this lunation is characterized by the twin retrogrades of Mercury and Venus. These inner planets are coincidentally both retrograde. Mercury lies at 6° of Scorpio, conjunct Haumea at 4°, while Venus, having re-entered Libra, is still moving backward in Libra’s final decan. The usual symptoms of review, reflection, missed connections, and mechanical breakdown are likely stronger than usual. Both planets are due to station direct simultaneously in a few more days, gradually straightening out over the next two weeks or more. This is thus an entirely introspective Scorpio lunation cycle that we have going as of the 9th, lasting for the next thirty days. The ongoing sense of radical transformation is nearly overtaking us, due to this prominent Uranus–Pluto trine. The way forward and the way down into our depths are one and the same.
There is additionally a tight Mars–Jupiter–South Node triple conjunction that is forming, at around 25° Leo, perfecting by the 16th and the 17th, when the First Quarter Moon is also directly opposed. Eris in her long conjunction with Chiron (currently only two degrees apart), lies at 25° Aries in this New Moon configuration, with Eris therefore precisely trine Jupiter and the South Lunar Node, plus Mars nearby as well, a few degrees away. Eris is herself closely opposed by retrograde Venus at 23° Libra. This is a dynamic set of aspects, promoting introspection as well as action, even as the prevailing double retrograde of inner planets calls for holding off from action, and first getting our ducks in a row, lined up more fully, before moving ahead.
This push-pull situation also brings Chiron, the Wounded Healer, closely conjunct Eris, into the picture, along with the exploration of what is deep inside us that characterizes this introspective month. It might be that our inner wounding will give us clues for how to accept ourselves better, heal, and integrate these internal complexes. Eris can be delineated as Feminine Warrior in support of soul intention, and she calls for plumbing our internal psychic depths for the answer to the question: What am I really all about and where headed? The answer may take a lifetime to arrive at completely. Yet as we take the current step in our search for wholeness, we begin to understand what in fact may come next.
Pluto trine Uranus is a powerful transformational encouragement that remains quite prominent now in this New Moon configuration as well, and their midpoint of nearly 4° Aries is near the Neptune/Saturn midpoint which speaks of bringing mystical understanding (Neptune) into concrete realization (Saturn). This, too, goes along with the overall tenor of inner meditation supplied by Mercury and Venus in retrograde, which is at some level in support of our attempts at better understanding why we are here from the standpoint of the largest possible perspective. We are all, at this crucial end-of-year timing, basically sizing ourselves up for our next evolutionary stage, however we may characterize this, and at whatever conscious or unconscious levels we understand it.
As we inevitably continue reviewing and reflecting on what we have to offer, and attempting to understand what the universe is asking of us, may we have utmost faith in ourselves to be on our consequential path, no matter how difficult this might at times seem to conceptualize. May we also continue to have faith in the universe, through all this, to have our back. And may we try our best to remain curious, rather than put-upon, at the strange way that the universe has of making it all, somehow, work out.
