This month continues the transformational trends of the past few, Sagittarius, and tees up new adventures in meaningful change. This could, at times, feel like tough sledding, so that you are encouraged to remember that surmounting a challenge builds character. Although being on the path to an entirely other landing place can be disorienting, it helps when you can make an active pronouncement that the universe is truly on your side, and that everything that happens to you is there for a reason. Your confusion at the core is necessary right now as you change worlds, and worldview. When doubts about this arise, the cheerful principle of “fake it till you make it” is your friend. Partners are also helpful in this regard. Your commitment there is likely to be serious and genuine, and returned. Although trending upward, you must deal with unexpected twists and turns in this area of life. You are in a process of articulating and acting upon your most basic truth and watching the universe give it back to you.
The following was written by this month's guest columnist Adam Elenbaas of The Nightlight Astrology School
Happy New Year, Sagittarius!
This month features two eclipses, one in Leo and one in Capricorn, plus a long lineup of transits through the sign of Capricorn, corresponding to your second house of values and resources, starting with a Sun/Saturn conjunction in Capricorn on January 1st, followed by a powerful Solar Eclipse in Capricorn on January 5th, bringing your beliefs and core values very much to the fore. Later, a Sun/Pluto conjunction takes place, also in Capricorn on January 10th, and finally there is a square from Mars in Aries to Saturn in Capricorn on January 21st.
With eclipses now set to roll through your second house for the next year, plus Saturn moving into a conjunction with Pluto in your second house by next winter, you are undeniably going through a period of contraction around money, finances, values, and resources. Often this is as simple as eliminating unnecessary or unwanted possessions or expenses or shoring up your resources and learning to say “no” to any use of your time or energy that isn’t vital to your sense of health and happiness. On the other hand, if you are considering starting a new business or a new creative project, the heavy Saturn themed influence could very well indicate that you are laying the groundwork for a new business endeavor. It may take time and require you to eliminate whatever is most distracting, but the results of doing so will yield fruit if you are patient and resilient.
On January 8th, Mercury in Capricorn will square Mars in Aries, and then between January 12th and 13th, Mercury will conjoin Saturn in Capricorn. During this period, you are going to be analyzing and negotiating, debating or scrutinizing things in order to reach your bottom line. Pick your words carefully and try to avoid overreacting to frustrating circumstances as it will only make things worse right now. And again, ask yourself the question, “What is most important and most basic for my sense of happiness in the long run'” If you’re honest with yourself and try to understand your deepest motivations right now, you’ll likely arrive at the best strategy for success.
On January 13th, just as the Sun and Moon come into the square alignment of the First Quarter Moon, Jupiter in Sagittarius in your first house and home sign will square Neptune in Pisces in your fourth house of home and family. Venus in Sagittarius is also perfecting a trine to Mars in Aries in your fifth house of creativity, joy, pregnancy, and the arts on January 17th. Ever since Jupiter, your ruling planet, moved into your first house in November of 2018, it’s been a time for new beginnings, personal growth, and expanded confidence, but now with the added square to Neptune in the fourth house you are also being called to wade into the backwaters of your family, home, parents, and ancestral roots, perhaps even exploring mystical subjects, ancient religious or spiritual traditions or even alternative dimensions of consciousness. It’s therefore an especially mysterious time for you right now, one that will help you to understand your family karma or your personal relation to land and home on a much deeper level, in order to help you take the next step forward in your personal evolution.
On the late evening of January 20th, a Lunar Eclipse falls in Leo, corresponding to your ninth house of spirituality, long journeys, and the higher mind, and marking the final eclipse after a year and a half of eclipses have passed through Leo. For some time now, you have been expanding your mind, faith, and understanding by leaps and bounds as the light of the Sun and the Moon have been eclipsed in this house over and over again. It is of course natural that our faith or understanding should grow, that old beliefs should die so that new ones might be born, and so that we might evolve and grow in our understanding of ourselves and the universe. At the same time, sometimes these eclipses bring with them a crisis of faith, in which case it has been, and will continue to be your work to allow yourself whatever time and space you need to question, doubt, and then triangulate in on the higher message of these experiences. The reward for doing so right now will be a renewed sense of truth and trust in the meaningfulness of your life path.
Then, on January 22nd, Venus in Sagittarius will conjoin your ruling planet, Jupiter, in your first house, blessing you with a rare window of radiance, charm, good fortune, and personal prosperity. This is a romantic transit, one that will likely create a powerful moment of happiness and confidence. The only warning here is to be careful about overdoing things or of over promising or getting lost in a wave of starry-eyed fantasy! Otherwise, enjoy the ride!
