You are on the cusp of great change, Scorpio, and the only question that remains is: are you ready' This coming year builds upon the massive changes of the previous one, with new peaks appearing to you the higher you climb. For this current month, communication and learning is one important key; by articulating your values and remaining curious regarding the new points of view that have been accumulating, you make them more real to yourself, and to others. You are thereby preparing to act on them, and this action becomes even more intensified after the powerful January 20th Full Moon eclipse, when an inner as well as an outer focus is indicated. You are feeling called to service of a most general kind. Perhaps you are realizing that to serve humanity is to simultaneously further more personal aims, which include your own evolutionary development. As Dylan once reminded us, “everyone is either busy being born or busy dying.” It is an easy decision to choose the former.
The following was written by this month's guest columnist Adam Elenbaas of The Nightlight Astrology School
Happy New Year, Scorpio!
This month features two eclipses, one in Leo and one in Capricorn, plus a long lineup of transits through the sign of Capricorn, starting with a Sun/Saturn conjunction in Capricorn, corresponding to your third house of communication and learning, on January 1st, followed by a powerful Solar Eclipse in Capricorn on January 5th, which brings your communicative outreach greatly to the fore. There is then a Sun/Pluto conjunction in Capricorn on January 10th, and finally a square from Mars in Aries to Saturn in Capricorn in your third house on January 21st.
Thus, with eclipses rolling through your third house for the next year, and with Saturn also moving slowly but surely to conjoin Pluto in Capricorn, your mind, thoughts, and personal mode of communication in the world is growing and maturing as you are finding the ability to think and speak with greater maturity, focus, and seriousness. It is a good time for grounding yourself in a new study or for reaching into deeper or perhaps even darker subject matters, or perhaps formulating new questions for deeper contemplation. If you have siblings, you may notice that they are going through a pronounced period of growth and change in the weeks and months to come, which you may be called on to support or bear witness to. One thing is certain, superficial information or conversations will not satisfy you, so the best thing you can do is to surround yourself with people or environments that demonstrate a higher level of sophistication and wisdom.
On January 8th, Mercury in Capricorn in your third house will square Mars in Aries in your sixth house, and then between the 12th and 13th, Mercury will conjoin Saturn. During this window of time you are going to be looking for practical ways of putting your ideas into action. This may require some effort, and you should be especially careful with your ruling planet Mars in the sixth house that you do not exhaust yourself, especially mentally, or waste your time with conflicts or busy work that does not further your cause.
On January 13th, just as the Sun and Moon come into the square alignment of the First Quarter Moon, Jupiter in Sagittarius in your second house of resources and values will square Neptune in Pisces in your fifth house of creativity, joy, the arts, and pregnancy. Venus in Sagittarius is also perfecting a trine to Mars in Aries in your sixth house of work, sickness, and service on January 17th. This is an imaginative and uplifting transit that will cause you to look at the way you spend your time and energy and whether you are investing yourself in things that bring you inspiration and happiness or not. If you have children, you may find that you are inclined to invest more deeply in helping them to cultivate their passions and interests, or you might find that you are writing a check to help them out of a challenging situation. With Chiron currently culminating in Pisces in your fifth house, there is also an opportunity here to address the wounds of your own inner child, which may be done by allowing yourself more time to explore the creative impulses you’re feeing at this time. The only warning here is to be careful of committing yourself to huge projects or plans that lack a solid foundation. But this shouldn’t be a problem given the earthy lineup of Capricorn transits in your third house this month.
On the late evening of January 20th, a Lunar Eclipse in Leo lands in your tenth house of career, the final eclipse of a long series of eclipses in your career house dating back over a year and a half. You can thus expect one last wave of transformational energy to sweep through your professional life over the next few months. The question at the heart of this eclipse is, “Where are my natural talents and intelligence best put to use in the world, and what changes do I need to make in order to live out my highest calling'”
Then, on January 22nd, Venus will conjoin with Jupiter in Sagittarius in your second house of resource, finances, and values. This is an auspicious transit to close out the month, bringing good fortune, beauty, and abundance. This can mean that investments are paying off or that you are making an exciting new purchase or even getting a raise or a windfall. However, be on the lookout for extravagance and frivolity, which often accompany Venus/Jupiter dynamics!
