Leo Horoscope for January 2019

This is a pivotal month for you, Leo, as you make your transition from the transformational times of 2018 to those of 2019, which promise to be of an even greater caliber. As the Neptune emphasis continues, the effect is to make a gentle form of intimacy a necessary condition for you to move forward with your own evolutionary development. As well as with important others, this includes intimacy with yourself at deep levels. You are also feeling a call to service, and it includes a nurturing attitude toward partners. Your worldview is simultaneously opening up to novel realizations. A sense of natural law appearing to you in everyday life is also part of this, including you in its cosmic interweaving. The Full Moon eclipse of January 20th is particularly poignant, bringing forward significant issues of self and other. This timing of the final weeks of January presages the recognition that while partners in your life are on their own, they are also a part of you.

Happy New Year, Leo!
This month is a wild one with two eclipses, and an impressive lineup of transits happening in the sign of Capricorn. January’s major astrological focus is thus on your sixth house of work, sickness, and service, starting with a Sun/Saturn conjunction in your sixth house on January 1st, followed by a powerful Solar Eclipse in Capricorn on January 5th, giving you a strong emphasis on health, day-to-day concerns, and service to others. Then there is a Sun/Pluto conjunction in Capricorn on January 10th, and finally a square from Mars in Aries to Saturn in Capricorn in your sixth house on January 21st.

With eclipses set to move through your sixth house for the next year, and with Saturn moving to conjoin Pluto in Capricorn in the sixth house by the winter of 2020, hard work, determination, and results gained through the blood, sweat, and tears of Saturn are to be expected. Traditionally, the sixth house was a house related to hard labor, servants or employees, chronic illness, conflict, and military training. The sixth house was traditionally called “the joy of Mars,” as well as the house of “bad fortune.” However difficult it may sound, the sixth has also long been known for its association with selfless service, sacrifice, and the work or labor we put into things because we actually care about them. The emphasis on these topics this month and in the year-ahead suggest that you are being asked to bring hard work and heart together in your day to day life. Anything less will likely be unbearable. As Leo it goes without saying that you are always at your best, healthiest, and most inspiring when your full heart is on board with whatever your work of the day happens to be. If you aren’t, then you will tend to experience “heart break” or “heart ache.”

On January 8th, Mercury in Capricorn will square Mars in Aries in your ninth house, bringing themes of critical thinking and decisive communication, but also possibly mental agitation or verbal hostility. Then, between January 12th and 13th, Mercury will conjoin Saturn in Capricorn in your sixth house, signaling a moment of finality, seriousness, or possibly deeper understanding and wisdom.

On January 13th, just as the Sun and Moon come into the square alignment of the First Quarter Moon, Jupiter in Sagittarius in your fifth house of creativity, joy, children and pregnancy, will square Neptune in Pisces in your eighth house of death and rebirth, and other people’s money and resources. Venus in Sagittarius is also perfecting a trine to Mars in Aries in your ninth house of higher education, spirituality, and long journeys (January 17th). Despite the heavier, Saturnine themes moving through your sixth house this month, it’s also a time of great Jupiterian joy and good fortune. Don’t be surprised if a partner or significant other is enjoying a wave of success or inspiration right now that is rubbing off on you. Or, you may be feeling inspired and imaginative, perhaps ready to launch a new creative project or to chase a creative dream, perhaps thanks to the generosity or support of others. Although this transit adds some major upside to the month, you should also be careful of the usual Jupiter/Neptune issues: grandiosity, new age woo-woo, big ideas without practical grounding, etc.

Late evening on January 20th, a Lunar Eclipse in your home sign of Leo lands in your first house. This is the final eclipse in your home sign after a year and a half worth of them. Good work! You have been going through something of a personal renaissance for a while now, and it has required you to dig in and do some very serious personal growth work. This final eclipse is more of the same. Landing in your first house, it’s time to shed the final layers. Whatever has reached its expiration date, you should know it by now and be courageous in letting it go. At the same time, whatever you know you need to start in on, whatever, whatever new chapter you are most eager to begin, even if it takes a lot of hard work, and a lot of faith and courage, you simply cannot put it off any longer!

Then, on January 22nd, Venus will conjoin with Jupiter in your fifth house of creativity, joy, children and pregnancy. This planetary combination brings flair, happiness, and beauty. In ancient astrology, sometimes the conjunction of these two planets was said to bring good fortune through powerful or important women, or general good fortune bestowed by powerful people or those with abundant resources. However, it was also sometimes talked about as the temptation of hedonism, extravagant purchases, and wasteful indulgence. Be prudent and wise with this energy, and this transit is likely to bring a wave of good luck to close the month!
