You are up against an interesting monthly cycle, Libra, as you enter into a new phase, following the recent retrograde of Venus, your ruler. This affects your attitude toward who you are and what, in the deepest possible way, you are truly up to. A building idea of spiritual mission reflects back upon your desire for greater self-knowledge and your ongoing curiosity regarding worldview and beliefs in general. You have been questioning your values and how to make best use of your resources, including financial ones, and you are now coming to some more definite conclusions regarding this important area. You are also feeling an idealized realization of partnership participation regarding your inner purpose, that task which only you can fulfill and which is in some sense your reason for having incarnated at this particular time and place. After the 21st, including the Winter Solstice and the Cancer Full Moon, you are entering into a fresh start on career and profession, based on these re-workings of your core beliefs.
The following was written by this month's guest columnist Adam Elenbaas of The Nightlight Astrology School
The month of December begins just as your ruling planet, Venus, is separating from an opposition to Uranus in Aries in your seventh house of relationships. While the opposition perfected on November 30th, the themes of disruption, innovation, and independence in relationships are still loud and strong to start the month. Sudden epiphanies regarding key partnerships in your life are quite likely to come up.
Meanwhile, all month long the major series of transits are all taking place in the sign of Sagittarius, in your third house of communication, learning, siblings, short journeys, and the mind, making squares to Mars and Neptune in the sign of Pisces and in your sixth house of work, sickness, and service.
On December 2nd, the Sun in Sagittarius will square Mars in Pisces in the sixth house. You are likely feeling emotionally and intellectually inspired and assertive right now. It’s a good time to put your ideas into action, or to speak out on behalf of others. You might be working very hard to learn something new, or perhaps laboring to communicate something of great importance.
Late evening on December 6th, continuing into the next day, the New Moon will also fall in Sagittarius in your third house, making a square to the Mars/Neptune conjunction in Pisces in your sixth house. Again, themes of mental intensity, assertiveness, action and service are all pronounced, now and for the remaining thirty days of this new lunation period. You should be careful that you aren’t letting yourself be pushed around or easily agitated. In the lunar cycle ahead, your mind will expand, and you may be asking yourself how you can do more to help others. However, you should be careful not to lose yourself in the haze of a passing emotional crusade.
On December 20th, the Sun in Sagittarius in your third house will trine Uranus in Aries in your seventh house of relationships, stimulating growth, creativity, and innovation in your relationships. Light bulbs and epiphanies abound when you speak your mind to those you are close with right now. You may also receive unexpected gifts or blessings from those you are close with as Jupiter is also disposing of the Sun right now.
On December 21st, Mercury will conjoin Jupiter in Sagittarius in your third house. Though you are by nature balanced and diplomatic in your interactions with others, there is an aura of big, brash, assertive, and charismatic intellectual exchanges surrounding this transit, which might make you feel uncomfortable. At the same time, when the need for justice and truth is most urgent, we are often called to speak up, regardless of whether it is the most pleasing thing for others to hear.
Finally, on December 24th, Mercury in Sagittarius in your third house will square Neptune in Pisces in your sixth house, bringing last month’s Mercury Retrograde full circle, back to the place it all got started. Your ideals are important. If you don’t know what they are, it’s easy to get pushed around and to end up compromising or sacrificing ourselves for other people’s visions. On the other hand, if we are too rigid about our ideals, then we may become too easily agitated when we have differences with others, or we may exhaust ourselves trying to prove a point. Somewhere in the middle there exists a place of clarity, a place where your strongest beliefs and your most basic actions are wed together in a balanced matter.
Other transits to think about this month include the Winter Solstice on December 21st, and the Full Moon in Cancer on December 22nd. The Winter Solstice on December 21st takes place as the Sun enters Capricorn and moves into your fourth house of home, family, roots, and property, shifting your attention to these topics for the year ahead. Meanwhile, the Full Moon in Cancer takes place in your tenth house of career, placing a brief but powerful emphasis on career matters at the same time. Note that in the month to come you will receive your first eclipses in these houses, as well, so stay tuned for more next month!
