Virgo Horoscope for August 2017

This is a big month for otherworldly experiences, Virgo, upsetting the apple cart of ordinary events before you even have finished counting all the apples. This is not at all bad for you or even difficult, however, once you accept the fundamental truth of your situation. Mercury, your ruler, is retrograde after the 12th, inspiring introspection. What arrives by means of deep intuition is pure gold, couched in terms of unconscious rather than conscious factors. This comes on strong during August, with the first Leo New Moon, before the month began, followed by two eclipses lighting up your dream sector as well as aspecting Uranus in your sector of intimacy and personal evolution, along with numinous Neptune in your relationship sector. You both idealize and are uncertain concerning partnership right now. The information is continuous and startling, when you are able to closely tune in, and takes you much farther down the road of your own spiritual evolution.

The following was written by this month's guest columnist Adam Elenbaas of The Nightlight Astrology School:

Eclipse season is big for every single Sun Sign, but for those born under the sign of the Virgin, it is an especially powerful month because in addition to two eclipses, you have your ruling planet, Mercury, in your first house, in Virgo, engaging in a long-standing opposition to Neptune in Pisces in the seventh house. Mercury will also turn retrograde in your first house this month, on the 12th. But before we cover this, let’s look at the two eclipses.

The first eclipse is a lunar eclipse (lunar eclipses always take place at Full Moons) in Aquarius in your sixth house, on August 7th. The second eclipse is a solar eclipse (solar eclipses always take place at New Moons),in Leo in your twelfth house. Traditionally the sixth and twelfth houses are related to both material and psychological forms of suffering, but also healing and service to others.

Lunar eclipses bring culminations, critical mass, closure, or endings. And Solar eclipses bring powerful new beginnings or new opportunities. Often eclipses in the twelfth and sixth houses will point to big changes for people who work in environments of suffering and healing, for example if you work in a hospital, or if you serve people who are struggling or in search of healing, then this month could bring significant changes to your job, your calling, or the healing or service oriented environment in which you work. You may see both old things reaching completion or a critical mass point, along with new things getting started. On the other hand, if you’re personally struggling right now, then it could be that this is the month that you are finally resolving some inner healing work or perhaps trying out a new approach to tackling an old problem or pattern that tends to throw you off course. Sometimes sixth and twelfth house eclipses literally bring to light the first noble truth of Buddhism, “All is suffering,” in a powerful and life-changing way. For example, I have a Virgo client who will be finishing a rehab program in early August and then entering sobriety for the first time in years. This client has told me they are incredibly excited to be done with the intensive rehab process but also terrified at afterward trying out sober life for the first time. This is mirrored perfectly by the lunar and solar eclipses taking place in this person’s sixth and twelfth houses.

Meanwhile, Mercury in your first house, your patron planet, is going to be moving into a near-perfect opposition with Neptune for much of the month, and will also begin its retrograde period on August 12th. The opposition between Mercury and Neptune across your first and seventh house axis will focus on truth, perception, communication, delusion, honesty, romance, emotion, critical thinking, and sensitivity between yourself and others. This is a transit that can bring deep spiritual and emotional awakening within your relationships, perhaps especially pertaining to communication patterns. Just remember, honesty comes with true love, and sensitivity can be lovingly blended with objectivity. When Mercury Retrogrades, you may very well find that you are having a hard time keeping your word, keeping your promises, or that you’re needing to deeply rethink or reevaluate your commitments in relationships. Again, remember, honesty and vulnerability in balance will keep you steering your ship in the right direction. You can do this, Virgo. Good luck!
