Virgo Horoscope for January 2017

This is a month of introspection and fantasy for you, Virgo, with also in the mix a conservative pulling back from over-idealism. This is therefore a month of contradictions, and of finding a careful balance between extremes. It is important to recognize that the retrograde of your ruler, Mercury, has a strong grip, nearly all month long, and that this is not a terrible thing. You are now inclined to look below the surface of your typical behavior, the way that you come across to others, and might remain longer in a state of simple witnessing than you are used to; and this is recommended. There are things in your life that you need to move beyond, and this form of seeing more deeply is a necessary precursor. As you think things through, and meditate on what you truly want, many doors that are now closed off will ultimately open.

As the month begins, you are feeling the strength of the recent New Moon from the end of December that lit up your self-expression sector, there conjuncting as well your ruler, Mercury, retrograde in mid-Capricorn. You have a tremendous amount of energy now for creative projects of all kinds, and for fine-tuning how you perform the artistic act of making manifest that which comes from deep inside you. With Mercury moving backward you are also likely to be in a meditative place about your life in general. You are re-examining in great detail the way that you come across to others. This is a paradoxical time for you, when with a portion of your psyche you are all about leaping ahead with new plans and new passions, while some part of you remains alert and isolated, holding back. You are very invested now in the idea of committed relationship with important others in your life, and yet may have illusions in that area to overcome before there is a solid grounding into actual sincere connection. Because both expansive Jupiter and stolid Saturn are currently strongly highlighted, the indications are there for over-enthusiasm and also for embracing practical considerations that lead you to refraining from going all out.

This sort of meditative approach to actions that you are taking can also be a really excellent safeguard against reactivity of all kinds. You have a tendency these days to put significant persons in your life up on a pedestal, and when the illusion comes crashing down, there could be disappointment that arises, or even anger. Thinking before speaking therefore comes in handy.
